Best engine cleaner

Need to clean up a really dirty motor.Looks like the mud was baked on to it.The power washer wouldn't take it off.What is a really good cleaner.

have used Purple Power cleaner/degreaser from Carquest, spray it on let it soak for 5-10 mins and hit it wit da pressure washer, seems to work for me...

castol purple is really good,,, but be carefull as it will fade paint and dry your hands out!! go easy with it and mix 50/50 before going full strength with it!!!

sand blasting the entire motor is the only way to go IMO. I have access to the one at company's main shop but you might not have one or access to one in which case I would look in the yellow pages and call for a quote.
If I am just wanting to get a side cover off to work on something inside, well yeah a wire brush will do the job well but for repainting a engine, sand blasting it in its entirety (with all openings sealed off accordingly of course) would be well worth 50 bucks to me to have done, if I did not have access to a company sand blaster.
So, I reckon it depends on how serious of clean up job you are wanting to do,,,

i have heard the awesome toilet bowl cleaner from dollar tree works well i think even on chrome but you need to neutralize it or it will eat the metal your skin or anything else it touches

Ding Ding Ding we have a winner. I love this stuff. Just keep it away from the polished aluminum it turns it white I love this stuff to. You can put that stuff in the wash to if your work clothes don't clean up with regular washing detergent.

I know it is tough on polished parts.Don't worry no polished parts here.Looks like it was never washed since 85.

My Atc90 project motor had about 40 years of mud and cow sh!t baked to it, I started with Simple Green, moved to Hot Wheel rim cleaner, and finally ended up with Easy Off oven cleaner to get 99% of the nasty stuff off.

I was just gonna say that..works great for me and this heavy clay SW Ontario mud.

Water, bathroom spray, a toilet brush and have at it. Then wash it off with the hose..

Once done I like to spray a light coat of WD40 on the engine and all the hardware..brings up that lustrus shine and protects from corrosion.

I like Castrol super clean brushed in, then pressure washed.

i sand the sharp edge of a razor blade scrape the thick $h!t off then use a red foam pad and wd 40 its kinda slow but it gets it off
