I am wondering what the diierance is between the 85-85 swingarm. Is it just the brake set up? I have an 86 frame and am wondering if I need to have something for a swinger I got on an 85 frame?

Brake setup and bearing carrier are different.

Damn, I bought a RAD bearing carrier and lock nut for the 85. Can I put an 85 swinger on and it will be ok or is it a different set up for shock and swinger to frame mount?

It will mount up just fine. I was going to run a '85 Westcoast on my bike but ended up trading Mr. Clean for an '86 swinger.

One thing I seen forgotten or not mentioned was the rake angle. The 86 was raked out 1/2 degree more than the 85. The rake angle was changed in the frame. Not the tripples.
I dont see alot of people post that.
Also the 86 has a different CDI and wire harness. The 85 was it's own entity. You are better off to run the 86 set-up.easier to get CDI's for.

What are the differances between the ATC and TRX swingarms or are they interchangeable with the 86 and hardware?

What are the differances between the ATC and TRX swingarms or are they interchangeable with the 86 and hardware?86-87 trx swingarms will work on the atc. You will need to use the atc shock because the hose is longer on the TRX.

Thanks BKM. Now I would imagine that the TRX uses the 86 ATC brake set up...correct?

Also when you convert to the 86-87 swinger set-up and carrier, I would suggest using the YZ dirtbike front caliper instead of the OEM 250R for the rear. They are cheaper, easier, and newer to get.
They pretty much bolt on. You have to adjust/slot/enlarge the holes of the carrier caliper bracket and use a allen bolt in the front area. There are some threads on the exact mods for the dirtbike set-up if you search you will find them.

I converted my '87 TRX over and used the 450r brake stay, caliper, rotor, and rotor hub. It was a direct bolt on with those parts.

Cool. Great info there guys. Anyone ever come up with a way to make an adjustable extended swinger out of an OEM one?
