View Full Version : should i remove the thermistat on my 85 tri z 250

hey guys i hear of alot of people doing away with there thermistat on the tri z 250 three wheelers should i do the same and make it free flow? do they go bad aften? will my engine last longer if i remove it?

I dont know if this will help but there was a post on this not too long ago, and I think TimSr. is the guy to talk to about it.

I got rid of mine. You might have some problems in really cold weather getting the cylinder to warm up without it. I live in the desert though so that doesn't really bother me much.

If you run at high rpms a lot then you should probably just take it out. The only problem when you take it out is the bike takes longer to warm up. Tim SR said that when they fail they usually stick open (if they stick closed though, say bye bye to your piston, and who knows what else).

thanx for the help i dont realy plan on riding mine in the winter so im going to remove it. ive got a coolent leak prob that im trying to track doun when ever i take the machine for a ride my coolent gets a little low and i see a puddle of radiater fluid on the cases around the base of the cylinder.

try retightening your base and head bolts.

If you take it out, just make sure it is good and warmed up before you really rip on it, or you could cold sieze it.

I never had one in mine and it ran great all the time cold, hot weather, it didnt make a difference.
