As the title states, I've been thinking about what I want to do with the 1978 ATC 90 that was given to me. I got it complete less the engine, and started disassembly for a stock restoration before my Big Red project came along. It's currently in a fridge in my shop... The past week or so I've been trying to decide what direction I want to go with the project, and since I've alredy done 2 stock restorations I think it's time for a custom build. Here's what I'm thinking:

Aftermarket tube frame; I don't know anything about them, what should I look for?

Suspension forks; same as above, what should I look for?

Since I don't have any engine, I can go any direction on that; but I was thinking something along the lines of a moderate build (I'll run it on premium pump gas) with a manual clutch. I want it to be fast, but nothing too extreme...

Could I get some advice from the 90 experts on this?

There are a few different rigid frames to choose from. Same with front suspensions. Just get your hands on one and start building.

Your direction really depends on budget and what you have and what you want to accomplish. If you have big money, well, then you can do big things. Parts are getting harder to find. You may have to build your trike in steps. Step #1, get a frame. Once you get a frame, then you can start getting your parts. You can run a stock (non suspension) front end for the time being and pick up a suspension front end as time and budget permits. Once you have your frame, then you will need the parts, rear bearing carrier, rear axle bearings, steering stem bearings. You will need a rear axle and rear brake assembly- drum, brake shoes, springs and all your bits for the rear brake lever. You will need to figure out what you will do as far as a chain tensioner, stock or aftermarket. You will need a wire harness, start switch and head and tail light. You will need handlebars and risers. You will need a tank, fenders and seat which will fit what you decide on for rear fendes. You will need a grab bar and the fender mounts and hardware. You will need a coil. You will need wheels and tires and front hub. But frame first.

Do any of the frames have advantages or disadvantages over each other, or are they all pretty much the same with cosmetic differences? I really like the one in 90crazy's fourth pic, it's a Joker right? I already have most of the parts you mentioned from the '78. I don't want to spend much over $2000 on this build. My frame search has begun!

Found these on evilbay. I think the Pauter is way overpriced. Thoughts?

The Nicholson is the best rigid frame IMO . The geometry make them handle very good .

Well, I'll continue my search, and if I don't come up with something better by January, I'll probably buy one of these. So the Nicholson would be a better choice than the Joker? I don't plan on racing, I just want to build a cool trike....
