I'm in need of some new triples for my 86 X and I found some 85 triples will they fit? Also has anyone ever bent a triple clamp before? When I bought my 86 the fork was bent bad and I swap on some forks I knew was straight but left the original triples on the bike and the front tire still turns to the right. Anyone give me some ideas?:wondering

the 85 uses a different bearing setup on the neck, but it will work.

The 86 is drilled and tapped for the plastic cover for the steering stop as well.

I have seen bent steering stems with badly bent forks.

You can run 85 or 86 triples.

Sometimes you have to loosen the 8 pinch bolts and hold the tire in between your legs while setting it straight and tighten it while holding.

Don't ask me why this has to be done because forks spin in the tubes but I have done it to straighten the front end out before.

You could also still have a slightly bent fork. I posted up a long time ago how to check it on the trike but IDK where that post is in 3WW.

Your right DC thats exactly what I did last night. I seen on a old thread on here that a guy suggested the same as you just did and it worked out great! I loosened the 8 bolts and the main bolt on the stem, put the bike up on my lift and twisted the bars while holding the front tire in place and loosened my front fender and set it straight. I got it all lined out now just needing to get some new bars for it there kind of tweeked alittle. Thanks alot guys for the help!
