I'm taking the axle out of my 200es to replace it. I have the axle assembly off and the wheels removed. Do I pull the seals off before I take the gear box apart? Also can the seals be reused?

You will more than likely need new seals as these will more than likely be damaged when you remove them. Plus, it never hurts to replace a seal that is over 30 years old.

you don't need to take the gearbox apart to replace the axle. For clarification, what are you referring to when you say "axle assembly"???? The rear-end has two parts to it, the gear side and the brake side. take the brake side cover off - that is all you have to remove. NOTE - 200ES rear ends are known for seizing together (ie - axle stuck in gearbox / brake assembly). They are extremely hard to get apart if all is rusted together. You don't have to replace the seals if you are just replacing the axle, but if you are taking things apart - replace seals and bearings. It is also much easier to work on when it is still hooked to the bike.

I got it all apart. Kinda wish I would have left it on the bike. My axle came out pretty easy. Just called the place that said they had a used one. Last week they said $100, now they say bring $160 and more if you want seals. Is this too high??

It is slightly bent. They just called back and said they don't have one. Wish they would have actually looked when I called last week.

I believe Dirtcrasher straightens bent axles. PM him and you might save a boat load of money.
