I like it! Is the swinger stretched, or does it just look long with no plastics or grab bar??

Congrats for sure!! However,,,you have a LOT of work and TIME ahead of you there! Not to dissuade you at all! Just know going in,,everything,,,that you figure is gonna take an hour or two,,will be 5. Rusted bolts, seized calipers etc.. Hopefully you have access to a blaster of some sort? if not a LOT os sanding and polishing in your near future. Will be great when it's done, and you'll know what you have!

Im about 10 miles north of Clearwater...Shoot me a price on the fenders and whatever else you may have..
Right now I just want to get it rideable.. After the new year, Ill start tearing her down..
The swing arm is stretched about 2 inches..
The guy I got it from said the owner before him extended it to keep the front end down... The motor is suppose to be bored 50 over and had to be run on race gas...
Its got a 4gal IMS gas tank on it..
The right foot peg is broke off and Ill have to get a new mount welded on...

The engine and the foot peg are my 2 main concerns right now..

Looks like a nice buy, your missing a few things like the other half of the front fender lol but its a good bike to start with you'll learn a lot while workin on it. I like the tape grips too my bike also started with those when i bought it but its came along way since then.

Pictures of the R fenders . These are the old matt finish Maier fenders just like your tank scoops . They are a little sun faded on the tops but they will clean up with a cleaning / light sanding will make them look new , my shop lights make them look more faided than they really are . If you pick them up in person I will make you a better deal .

Can you send me a picture or post one?

I would probably spend $100 in fuel for that trip...Do you have any more parts I may need? About 280 miles...

You got alot more to work with than I do!! I just picked up one for next to nothing but got a long road ahead. I dont even think mine is savable but will sand blast it to see what I come up with. I started with something similar on my Tecate but thats been 3 yrs and still going!135849135850135851135852135853

84T3,
How can you work under those very poor lighting conditions? Hijo le.

I think the bad lighting is helping me with the denial about the condition of the frame:lol:

Well I took the head off the engine tonight and found the piston stuck to the cylinder and rust all over the cylinder. Finally got the jug off and the piston off. The front of the piston looks alittle melted. Ill get some pictures tomorrow. So new piston and bore.

Here are the pictures of the jug and piston..

The number on the top of the piston is 62310
The number in the middle is 2 then a space 00MM
under that is 526P8 I believe...

My neighbor said the intake and exhaust ports have been ported..

You can see the edge of the piston, looks like it got alittle melted

Its a 68MM piston from what I searched... So Im thinking a 330 kit? What is all needed to run a 330 big bore kit and is there any troubles Ill be running into after.. Like running hotter (Im on Fla)? Head work etc...

MAN some one rode that hard and put it away wet. well looks like a fun project, just make sure your water pump or something didnt go out to cause this.

Any of you 250r pros have any opnions on what I should do? How much bigger can I go safely? What all is need for these big bore kits?
For the condition the trike is in, is it worth moving on or just part it out? Read the first post for what is all needed to get it rideable.

If Im not mistaking 2.00mm piston is a 70.00mm bore which is the last bore on that cylinder!! could be wrong but Im sure someone will chime in and let you know for sure!

Be sure to check your rod/crank bearings to make sure they are tight and in good shape. also check you waterpump and your Counterbalancer bearings. Lets face it that is a 26 year old motor that from the looks of it, it was riden HARD. If you dont plan on tearing down the motor to inspect aleast check out the things I mentioned. You dont want to put a new piston and bore job into that thing just to have it blow up because of something going wrong that wasnt addressed.

On the big bore option. There are a couple of ways of getting a 330 big bore. One is a 74mm piston with a 76mm stroke (4mil crank, stock stroke is 72mm). Another is a esr 330 big bore which is a 76mm piston. I would go through the motor before even considering a big bore. Like I said its an older motor that has probably has been neglected. I belive 70mm is max bore on stock cylinder.

I think you have a good project if you are wanting to go through everything (bearings, seals) and make it top notch.

Do I need to split the case to check these things? There is no up and down play on the rod...

250rmanfmf
11-26-2011, 01:34 PM
no, you dont have to slpit cases to check. To check the counterbalancer bearing is remove your clutch side cover and you will see the counterbalancer and check the bearing play. Also take the stator cover off and the timing plate off and check that side too. Then from there you can check your waterpump. While you are in there check out the kick assembly for slipage and might be good to refresh the clutch while you are there.

Note that if you really want to do a big bore kit like the 330 you will have to split cases to have the cases bored. That would be a good excuse to go through the whole motor. Just all depends on what you time line and buget is.

Thanks for bring that trike back to life, looks like its going to be a sweet project
