i found a nice looking tecate. but im clueless when it comes to them.ive been around 3 wheelers and other atv's/motorcycles most of my life( im 26 now). just never messed with a t3 yet. came across a good deal. he wants to trade this tecate for a 1/5 scale rc gas baja that i have, and no longer use...he says this t3 has just about every aftermarket part on it thats available for the t3. although to me it only looks like an aftermarket pipe. but like i said i dont know squat about these tecates. is there certain things i need to look at when looking into these machines? just any help or info or input would be appreciated right now. id like to do the trade, but dont wanna regret it a month down the road kind of deal. but id like to see the thing all green too instead of the green/white stuff going on. and i dont know whats up with the gas tank either

heres pics.

I would do the trade in a heartbeat!! Traded mine for a 85 250sx, looks like a green cover over a red tank ,I would say if you can take somebody with you that knows a little about bikes, looks nice though.

There seems to be a few after market parts there. Deffinately a cover on the tank but I have an extra green one for you if you need. Looks like carb and air cleaner too and shock, wheels, extended axle or spacers, and water pump and stator cover. I would imagine a new stator and flywheel but ask about that because they are know to go. I would do the trade but take it for a ride and make sure everything operates fine and it goes through all the gears. Looks like a deal in my book!

dave, you missed the 86 tecate swingarm. If you dont use the rc car I would do the deal. Take a look at the top shock mount,it looks like they may have moved it back a little. Its hard to tell the pics are small

I'm pretty sure I have tried to buy that twice, but the owner never answered me. It's been on Craigslist in Iowa for a long, long time.. The owner or previous owner was tecatecrazy from the site.. Another member picked up the lot of his parts and I got a real nice sectional pipe from him. I think that Tecate has a KX cylinder as well..

yea i know it has been on craigslist for atleast 6 months. he was wanting like 2k for it if i remember correctly. then i completely forgot about it, then i made the mistake of getting on craigslist at work lastnite and i found it. hes wanting to trade for a 1/5th scale baja truck. and i just happen to have one. he seems really interested in it too, being as my baja truck has alot done to it also

I talked to the guy on the phone. He's talking like he is the one who built it. He said he was trying to make it look like a tony white replica. (Whatever that means) he did confirm the 86 swingarm extended axle carb intake kx cylinder and head. Stator cover waterpump handlebars and what not. He's waiting for me to get pics of what I have to continue on with the deal. But I'm definately interested and so is he. So we will see where this goes

im not trying to sound cocky or anything. but im 26 and have had alot of bikes. including several 200x's 350x's have a banshee now along with my 85 and 84 250r's. im comfortable riding, or seeing what a machine can do. i didnt want this thread to sound like im new to 3 wheelers or anything. im just new to the tecates. yes i just dont use my baja that much anymore, so im definatly wanting to trade. im trying to get a small collection of wheelers lol, and always thought it would be neat to get ahold of a tecate, then a tri-z

ive seen guys dump over 2k into one of these bajas. mine is a hpi (which is a name brand) although theres a new company making an exact clone to mine or the to the hpi's which are being sold for half the price of the hpi's. their fun, fast, and loud. their powered my 2stroke motors like a chain saw or weedeaters and what not. alot of the guys upgrade to these from the little nitro burning r/c's as their not finicky with their tuning, and there is just about no maintenance to be done to them. their a blast to have, but like i said i just dont use mine anymore. i recently got back into trikes here in the last 6 months and theyve been taking my free time up haha. not that im complaining

Well, perhaps I reckon. Everyone should have a hobby IMO. I do NOT want too know how much I have invested over the last 30 years in scuba gear, trips, and all related that go along with or what the cost of upcoming related stuff I want,,,
What is the old saying ~ I spent my money on ladies, liquor + leisure, the rest I simply squandered away (sounds like a happy camper to me :) )

IF (really big if) both machines are in a really good state of tune, I'm going to say you won't have one that stands head and shoulders above the other. That being said they will each excel at different things. The Tecate has a very in your face type powerband, It needs the longer swinger to actually put the power to the ground in a manageable fashion. The R will have a much broader power curve and in my opinion a more forgiving machine to ride. I'll take Honda's suspension hands down all day long over the Tecate. But the Tecate feels like a much nimbler machine in tight trails. Almost every aspect you can look at one could be better than the other but it will come down to set up, personal opinion, and choice.
I will tell you that if both machines are sitting in the garage and I had to pick one to ride, I will always choose my 250R over the Tecate. Others would choose different.

The nicest thing though is being able to choose:naughty::naughty::w00t::w00t::w00t:

lol yes i realized that. i felt bad when we were there in person talking about the trade. but he was gung ho about the trade, and i was holding back from getting too excited. i did have alot of money in my baja, but like you said its hard to get your money back out of them. my baja was a running driving machine, and had the radio still...it had a fm radio, but the guy wanted a digital radio thus the reason he said no the first time and threw it up on ebay to try to buy a new baja, but no bids ticked him off so he went back to trade to me

ill get pics tonite after work, or early tomorrow, as yesterday was a very long day for me. i was looking the bike over, and i was starting to notice a ton of aftermarket goodies on the bike itself

ok i know everyone is wanting pics....my garage is under lit, so the pics are not turning out. ill get them tomorrow and push the bike out side in the fresh snow were currently getting and get some pics

went through the bike some. checked fluids. i need to flush the antifreeze. it has some purple stuff in it currently, but it only tested to be good for +20 degrees. so i need to mix up some fresh stuff and atleast get it to 0 degrees. although my garage is heated and insulated, i would just feel better if i got better protection for the cold. changed the oil, i believe he was running trans fluid in it, as it was bright red. the viscosity was very good as it made your fingers slick, like that of good oil. DUH lol....flushed it for some synthetic oil, just so im at ease of a fresh oil change. checked both front and rear brake fluids. also had purple tint to it. so someone definately didnt cop out on fluids for this thing...did some more digging through parts, and i was shocked to find a very nice actual kawasaki brand service/shop manual. it breaks absolutly everything of the bike down into schematics. very nice manual. im just kinda tickled pink right now on this whole deal...

Congrats Steve. The red (trans) oil is probably actual motor oil! It could be Klotz Flex Drive 30. Its a 2 stroke trans and gear oil. Thats what I use and seems to work good for me.

It's a nice Tecate, if you like it and plan on keeping it you should contact swineheart about getting the chain sliders for the swingarm(make sure you let him know it's for the 86/7 swingarm). Also, as far as the backwards kicker I know that the rear master cylinder is sorta in the way, but I think there is a new aftermarket rear master cylinder guard on ebay. Also, can you get some more pictures of those rear hubs, and do they have the 84/5 tecate spline count?

I did notice the rear master had a different bracket on it and moved into the frame a tad more. I don't know how.many good splines they have between the different years. You want pica of the hubs on the bike or my extra hubs?

Thats what ya call good ole Tecate sit down, shut up and hang the F on! The more you ride it the more you will get the green blood pumping through your veins!

I do like the t3. But it lacks that high end look that my 250r has. To me the R's are just beautiful

It just needs some parts and it'll look like a pure breed racing machine!!

The powerband is relatively aggressive. I remember my first ride. WHOAH I think i changed my pants twice. now i've got Tecate RED blood flowing in my veins (cause mine is red). Before you know it you'll be mashing that gas WOT and shredding up some dirt or tarmac even... Guess how my tires got bald? :naughty:

this thing is very fun. although it will shake you to death. i dont think this thing has a counter balancer in it. but oh well, i can get past that haha. ive just been tinkering with it here and there. put the green tank bra back on and put a green rad cover on it too.

Did that green number plate come with it? That looks like a Maier Ram air plate. I believe it looks better than the UFO (DC Plastics) copies.. She looks really good.. The Tecate's didn't have counterbalancers and yes the difference is easily felt between a Tecate and a 3rd gen 250r.
