So I am trying to get the axle out of the rear carrier which is an 84 model. Do i need to somehow get that ring out on the top of the 2nd picture or does it remove via the other side? 134230134231

You should be able to pop that o-ring off and slide it out

"That ring" is a circlip, and yes it has to come out.

Im not famillar with those green machines but I thought that the sprocket hub remains on the axle. Everything on the brake side comes off (left handed threads) and grab ahold of the sprockt hub in pic#2 and pull the axle out of the carrier. It might come out hard if it is dry (no grease).

Yea as stated above pull the axle out the other way. Might need some lube and some wood and some gentle tapping with a hammer but it will come out. Just did this 3 weeks ago on my 85 T3 :)

That would be the easy route if he didnt have everything already tore down, still could do that. Either way it will come out but alot less work doing it like ktm said

the circlip only needs to come off if you want to take the sprocket hub off the axle. The easiest way is to remove the two nuts on the rotor side(standard right hand threads) and slide the axle in the opposite direction. The hubs (sprocket or rotor) if havnt been move in a long Arent going to wanna move easily. A block of oak, heat, oil and a sledge will get things moving. use never seize when you put it back together to save trouble in the future
