I aquired this project? a while back but just got around to taking pics. The guy I got it from owned an ATV shop back in the 70s-90s and was a trike fanatic. (as long as it wasn't a honda lol) He built many one off trikes powered by different bike engines (RD200-400, Kawi tripples, 125s, 250s, etc.) This old one was powered by an air cooled (this was in the mid-late 70s) RM125 motor. He said this was his rider back in day and would laugh at all the guys spending big bucks on their 90 based engines. They would all be running big bore strokers (Powroll he mentioned) some on alcohol and he would smoke em out in the dunes. Anyways,I got most of his few parts he had left since he was a Tecate guy, and he had this laying around so I threw it in my truck.

The axle is the part that I have never seen before. He told me he thinks Big Als supplied the axle but he wasn't sure. It was custom with a knock-off sprocket hub for quick gearing changes. What do you guys think?

The forks appear to be Big Als two position. And the brake caliper is a Hurst mechanical set-up. I also got old aftermarket fiberglass rear fenders with it in good shape. The frame is really cool, he did all the work himself. He said he would go to his buddys exhaust shop after hours and get all his tubing built lol. It must have been sweet back in day all chromed out. I dont really know what I am going to do with this stuff, but I couldn't let it get scrapped or sit outside anymore.:beer

That rear axle looks stock oem to me but the spacer is kinda different . LMK if you want to sell the front end . That frame looks like a atc110 Nicholson frame that was customizzzzed :naughty: . Good stuff :w00t:

That's different for sure, even for me. LOL That frame may very well be hommade. A nicholson frame didn't have all those tapered areas at the bends like this frame does. That knock off for the rear sprocket is different as well. People used 2 piece rear sprockets for real quick change applications.

Pat look at the neck and back bone . That doesnt look like a Nicholson to you ? The rest of the frame looks home made for sure .

Im sure the frame is built by him. I thought the axle was kinda strange? Apparently you just take the wheel hub off, wheel and all, then loosen the tensioner, then spin the sprocket hub off? Seems kinda pointless to me but this guy was really experimenting back in the day. He has a 86 Tecate with a KX500 and a lot of great parts on it, set-up for the dunes- Old school WP rear shock, Calfab swingarm, dura-blue extended hubs etc. It is basically wasting away under a tarp. It needs a bit of work and he needs a bit of cash for it but I dont have the funds right now.(just bought a house) Heres some T3 stuff I got from him and a set of Hoosiers, although they are badly cracked and only one holds air, oh well. Check out those 86-87 NOS aluminum rear sprockets- 32,34,38 tooth Circle Industries:beer

The frame looks like a Nicholson frame, but it could just be a copy. Without having the frame infront of me to do some measuring and micing of the tubing and the thicknesses and such, it's hard to tell just from the picture. Nicholson frames set the bar pretty high as far as fit, finish and technology was concerned. He was quite the innovator and trend setter for lack of a better term.

Thats pretty cool. Nice score on all of the goodies!
I would love to talk to that guy! I have a few questions about my engine!
Tell him one of his old 86 Tecates is alive and well here in Utah. :) HH
