85 tri-z . Does everyone use the stock throttle cable or has anyone found a different cable that works ? ( Has a twist throttle and i want it back to a thumb )
What size front tire works the best for trail/dirt riding ?
Will any yamaha front master cylinder work with the stock front brake line and caliper ?
What mm is the stock carb ?
Thank you for the input.

Do you have a stock carb? If so, complete OEM thumb throttles are available on ebay. I can't answer your tire question, but I'm sure someone will and providing the mounts are for a 7/8" bar and the banjo bolt is 10MM you can use practicaly ANY front master, providing the hose mount is not in the way of anything else.

just too save any hassles! Both those cables Are for the 85 which are two piece cables, you will still need the upper cable and the pull box assembly that came on the 85...

I think I saw those on there too. Suspect he was searching "Tri Z" and not "YTZ" It's amazing what you can find on ebay if you dig in and search different ways. I've found some gems by searching "Yamaha ATC" or "Yamaha Three Wheeler" and ended up being the only bidder.

Yea. Thanks alot guys , cable ordered. I want to get new handlebars for the z but if the clamp spacing on the z is like my 84R not any handlebars will work. What you guys running for handlebars ? I would really like to get protaper or renthal . Anyone have them on your tri-z ?
Thanks

I sure hope you figure this one out. I spent a few yours trying to find something in a taper that would span that huge space. Mounts would be easy. Good luck.

i run a pair of tusk t-10 aluminum bars, atv sport bend, on mine. fit and look great, although not as spendy as renthals or pro taper. i'm sure you could get the specs for those bars, and match them up if you wanted.

I use a 86 cable or a 83-84R cable ,,, pull the top cable holder out of the carb cap.. get a cable holder for a keihn carb and double nut it to the cap,,, one on the inside and one outside with red locktite. stock carb is a 32 mm,, stock tires or the Ambush tire you can find on ebay,,, there a 86 nos tire on there right now for $150,, which is cheaper than what I payed for mine.
YZ front master cylinder work great ,, there smaller, lighter, and Easy to find,,,

Man . . . I took the stock carb off to get the PWK ready to go on and to my surprise the stock mikuni has a 470 main jet . That's huge ! What is the stock jetting for this bike ? I was talking to my guys at PR racing and they said that if it was running good with that jet it must have alot of port work done.

That's what I said the first time I heard that # thrown out for a main jet, but for that style carb, on that engine it's stock as a rock.

So a keihin main jet would be a 235 main then ? Isn't it half of the mikuni jetsize if i remember correctly ?
Bryan Raffa

MIKUNI # are way Diffrent than A keihin!!....and dont be swappin jets ,,,Keihin jets are longer... start with a 180 with a 55-60p.. ,,, tune it from,,,
what you wanna do is get main jets from 165-185 and a few pilots ..before you start tuneing..

Oh . I know that much man . . . lol . . . Not my first walk in the park but I never delt with a jet this big and converting over into keihin jets. I'll start with a 175 for the colder weather then and see what colors i get , thanks man .
