Is that really a "too steep kicker" to you Tatool? Not trying to ruffle anybody's feathers, but that was a pretty weak little hill. Total rider error.

Having broken a tailbone on a similar landing on an even smaller jump I for one sympathize with the poor boy. I’m just glad I did it years before every swinging dick had a camera rolling at all times. Poor guy is forever immortalized on the Internet in permanent pixels by his predatory buddies.
FYI: No one ever wants to sign your broken ass, or kiss it better.

Come on Fabio, I know u have made y o u r name here saying things that could be easily left unsaid and now u have to uphold y o u r bad a** persona. and I'm not tryin to ruffle any feathers either I just call it like it is.
We have jumped many things much larger.
He actually made the jump the first time but landed down on top of it. So he added a bit more speed and maybe pre-loaded the forks a little too much, lol.
Anyway, it's not the point. I posted cuz he was fine and so it was funny.

Thanks for reminding me that I need to pull the cover off it, finish the jetting and post some action shots (wheels down). We had a MAJOR termite problem here and the exterminators were drilling holes and making a mess, so it's been sleeping under a tarp for a bit. Maybe I'll do a top end chop tonight...

If you're telling me you said that in sarcasm then I apologize for missing it.
It was funny for sure.

It sure looked like a simple leap; but he wasn't on the gas........ It sounded like he blipped the gas at the critical moment that doing nothing might has landed him safely. I'm sure his pride hurts way more that his keister.

Rather than jack this thread maybe we should start one on mechanicaly induced autoerotic experiences and the correlation between excessive chrome and premature "detonation"? Regardless of that one thing is for sure and that is that thanks to Das my wife is going to be looking at me funny everytime I go out to the shop after dark from now on.

Here you go, totaly related to the fall and informative as well. It explains in great detail what happened to your friend.
Gravity is the force that draws an object or living thing downwards. The word comes from the Latin gravis, meaning "heavy".
Objects that have mass pull on each other. We call this 'pull' gravity. The strength of the pull between two objects depends on two things. The first is the mass of both of the objects. The larger the masses the stronger the pull of gravity. The second is the distance between the objects. The larger the distance the weaker the pull of gravity. Both of the objects will feel this pull equally. The formula for the strength of this pull is:
You and the Earth have mass, so the Earth pulls on you and you pull on the Earth. This pull is what we call weight. The Moon has 1/6 the mass of the Earth. So if you were on the moon the pull between you and the moon would be six times smaller. This means your weight on the Moon would be six times smaller. Your mass is always the same. It does not matter if you are on the Earth, or the Moon, or anywhere else, your mass does not change.
Things that are falling still have mass, but we cannot measure their weight, so we say that they are "weightless". Astronauts and spacecraft in outer space can be weightless. They look like they are floating. Really they are falling in an orbit around the Earth.
They still have mass, so we still have to push them or pull them to make them go or stop. Astronauts inside spacecraft use their arms and legs to jump or to stop. Spacecraft use rockets to move.

Well, I have questions then for those who are fortunate to have shocks on the front. What does "preloading" mean? And why does it seem to make a jump fail?
TatTooL23
10-25-2011, 03:38 PM
u pre load the forks by pumping them down just before u jump to sort of make them pop back up thus pushing u off the jump more. normally u would want this to happen sort of evenly between the front and rear suspension depending on the jump or how u wanna land.
oh thanks EL Camexican, lol. very good explanation.
