hey guys, i am needing some help here with my 83 atc 70. it has no pull start so it has to be push started lol. i can push it with about 1/4 throttle and it will start and run for 5 seconds or so and then die. soon as i start pushing it again it will fire right off with 1/4 throttle, any more it wont run and any less it wont run. i have been thru the carb 4 or 5 times with no luck. i have tried a new spark plug (NGKC7HSA) and it didnt change anything. the choke seems to be not working correctly but it shouldnt keep it from atleast running for more than 5 seconds? I think it might just be time for a new or good carb. does anyone have one they want to sell? also i need a good gas tank that doesnt leak.

if the choke is not working that might be why it wnt start if it hasnt been started in a while. try taking off the air filter nd covering the air intake as a choke. did that with mine before i fixed the choke

So he might as well buy straight from ebay!
Whoever doesn't trust ebay had one bad experience, maybe two and theyre just chicken now.
Get an ebay account.
Get a paypal account.
Buy the carb.
Done deal!

I know it sucks, $80 for a clean ATC 70 pull start isn't a bad deal.
That's one thing I learned to look for when buying a 70 - pull start and solid seat pan. No pull start = -$100 from asking price and set pans were a deal breaker but now somebody is making reporductions.

I was 20 when I bought my 87 200x and first thing I did was power wash the stickers right off the fenders. Seemed like a good idea at the time, now I kick myself everyday for it.

That spring takes 5 minutes to just wind back up onto the little pulley. I've done it many times.

thorpe, the pull start that i have is rusted bad, 2 of the 3 bolt holes or tabs is rusted off the pull start. wehn i purchased the 70 the pullstart had been laying on the ground beside it for a couple of years. i need another recoil starter but dont have the $80.00 to put into it right now.

I happen to have a nice functioning 70 pull starter. Do you have any 250es fenders you want to trade if you don;t have $$??

I second that. The first ti me I replaced a spring it took forever and seemed almost impossible. Now I can pull one apart replace the spring and have it all back together in like 10 minutes. Actually did one 2 weekends ago for a buddy.
Plus atc70 pullstarts are like gold, they just keep going up in price.

if thats the case, the atc 70 is leaving, it isnt worth my time. i guess i will stick with the bigger atcs. it was a dream to own the whole honda line of atcs from the atc 70 all the way up2 the atc 350x. oh well the atc 70 doesnt look like will be part of it. i have a 250sx, bigred 250es, atc 110 and now working on getting a atc 250r and a atc 200x.

Didn't take me hours to get the hang of it....I thought it was pretty straightforward. Wind it up onto the pulley, set the pulley back in the case and put it all back together. I've seen people try and wind the spring back into the case and that doesn't work at all....

350xx i think i will push it into the nearby woods here on our property and let it sit there and maybe one year i will drag it back up and do something with it. got too many projects right now anyway. i got a 250sx that needs new bearings in the rear, new tires and a rim. i got a 1988 honda trx 300 2wd that needs the rear end rebuilt and a few other things i have forgot.

Sell it to get some funds for other projects and in a year or 2 buy another. Dont send it out to rot in the woods!

what would it be worth? would be willing to trade it for a good rear diff for a 1988 honda trx 300 or a good rear end for my 85 250sx.
