View Full Version : what to do with an 84' 250r engine
i have an 84' 250r with a running engine with the hondaline 300 top end. the bike is in rough shape in my eyes not worth rebuilding. anyone have any ideas of what to do with it? is it worth anything? i thought it might be neat to try tossing it into a honda 400ex frame. hate to let a good engine go to waste.

Not to burst your bubble, but its a 400-450$ motor at best. cost ya 65+ just to ship it at best

an air cooler in a 400ex would be different, esp. with a 300 kit...

You DO realize the chain is on the wrong side right?
So are you saying I shouldn't try it because the is an obstacle?

Yes the chain would be on the opposite side of the drive gear!!!

I went the other way around in a pinch to get a bike together for Dunefest few years back, full 86 rear end on my 84 trike. The opposite side drive can be overcome fairly easily. I didn't wanna make any permanent changes, so this is a little goofy as the chain slider is on top. Sufficed for a weekend though

Like Jadleybray just posted, flip the swinger!
I had a guy offer to sell me a go-kart that was set up to run a 250r engine (the engine was gone); I turned him down because it was one of those goofy asphalt/concrete only go-karts. (I'm an off-road kinda guy...) Sounded neat though; he said it'd do about 70 but any faster and the tires would swell and rub the motor!
Well I couldn't find anything to put my motor in so I'm gonna restore it. I'll try to post some pics of what I'm working with. I've restored 2 basket cases so far, this will be the toughest one.

are you talking about puting a atc motor in a coffee table
If by coffee table you mean quad then yes it was a thought. I have seen the light though and decided to bring back a piece of history.
