I can feel some trike withdrawl on the horizon:wondering and needed some input. I have seen a ton of beautiful 250rs on the site and aftermarket parts/upgrades seem to be pretty easy to locate.

My question is this-

What are some of the differences in the the 1985 and 1986 250rs. Usually you always want the later model years in any production piece because the builders will find the little quirks, problems and get them fixed with the next batch off the production lines. Are there more aftermarket parts available for one year over the other or do the parts interchange with both years?

Obviously I'm not knowledgeable with these yet and feel comfortable asking what some might perceive as "stupid questions"

What are your opinions and ANY INPUT you all might have is welcome.....Thanks

90% or more of the parts are interchangable, there's a few minor differences between the 2 but not really noticable, the 86's have a slightly different rake in the frame so they ride a little smoother and dont beat you up quite as much as the 85's do. The carriers are different, taillight mounts, motor mounts are slightly different, head light is bigger and has a higher wattage bulb for 86'... Just little things man but nothing to divert away from either, if you find a good deal i would jump on either one without questioning it!!!

As far as aftermarket stuff your pretty much golden with the 85-86's!!

aftermarket parts a plentiful thats for sure!!! i have an 85 250r and Tri Z and the R has way more parts available no doubt!!! motor parts interchange from 85 to 86, the 87-89 Trx motors have a longer connecting rod. everything else except what was already mentioned interchanges. find a good base platform bike thats close to complete to start with buy a repair manual and post any questions on here and im sure u will have an awesome bike come spring!!!! good luck

Engine performance is about the same.... if you find one in good condition of either years go for it. I'm selling a nice 85 right now in the classifieds but I'm a few states away

83 and 84 are the years it's hard to find parts for.
