Hey guys, I am hoping to go to the busco beach ride on the 15th and think I found a trike just in time. Its a 1986 Honda Big Red 250ES. 2 owner vehicle passed down from father to son. All original except 27 inch super swamper vampire tires. He said it needs brakes, battery, and seat cover but he just kick starts it and rides it. Now, I am very experienced with trade deals in general but I have no idea what this thing is worth but hes asking $675 cash. He wants to trade for my 1987 Kawasaki KDX 80 Air Cooled 2 stroke 5 speed 80cc dirt bike with new front tire, chain and sprockets, fresh rebuild on the engine and carburator, and everything works. It can be hard to start sometimes. The plastics on my Kawasaki are badly sun faded and the previous owner painted them and the tank, the seat cover is hard and has a small crack in the back of the seat (6 hour ride at busco does this hehe). Pics attached of both bike and trike. Any opinions on this trade? I value the Kawaski dirt bike around $600-$800. 132998132999133000133001133002133003133004

i dunno, your 80 looks in better shape. i see busted fenders on the big red and lord konws what else cuz pics are not to hi rez. def needs valve cover or head gasket addressed due to the "wet oiled" top of the motor...last time i seen somthing like this when i went to replace a $10 part it ended up costing $500 for a rebuild due to a warn piston and egged cylinder. i saw you'll atleast put $600 into that machine.

I personally wouldn't do it. If you are really intersted in a 250ES, sell your 80 and find the right one. I have an 85 250es and paid less than that for it and it is in much better shape. Deals come around, try to wait it out even though its nearly imposible when it comes down to it.

Just my opinion!

This is the pic from the guys house the day I bought it, has since been spit shined

If it were me I would keep the bike and keep looking. Always hard to tell by pics. I've seen better deals out there. I think if your having to ask for opinions, I would second guess it.

keep the bike, sell it if you want. i think you can get 700-800 for that bike pretty easy come spring time. i always see big red in better shape for around 800.

Well, the front suspension is blown as well. The rear fenders are not OEM, and they look beat to hell. The machine seems pretty rough.

I would say pass on that, you can get more for your KDX. I'd list it at $900 OBO. You can find good condition 1st-2nd gen 250r's for $500 ish.

Not to hijack a thread, but this needs addressed.....

The kdx is not worth 6... I have one that is in better shape that I got for 100$, and there's 3 around me for sale for 200

Tell you what, I am not far from you. Tell me where the KDX bikes you speak of are for $200, in better condition than his, and are not bikes that you have stolen and I will come buy them and give you some $$ for finding them.

Thanks for the advice everyone, and to Addicted, you must be crazy. Good luck finding a running, driving, vintage 2 stroke in as nice of shape as mine for under $800. Anyway, I didn't do the trade. I told him it was too rough for me. And Devilman, thanks for the email address of that guy with the nicer big red!
