OK so I have the official Honda repair manual and it's informative but I was wondering if anyone had any tricks to knocking out the old races and replacing them. To my knowledge the All-Balls Tapered Needle bearings are not the same as the stock ones, so the races have to be changed also. Any suggestions? Thanks

When you get an all balls kit, they come with bearings and races. You need a long round driver from a chisel set or a long bladed screw driver and just carefully knock the old races out. The bearings will be 2 differnt inside diameters, the skinniest one is for the top bearing. On my recent install, after removing the old bearing piece from the lower triple tree, I installed the spacer first, after heating it in the oven to expand it some, but I still had to tap it down on the lower triple tree and then I installed the seal. Once I did that, I put the lower triple in the freezer and put the lower tapered bearing in the oven, the oven expanded the bearing and the freezer shrank the steering stem. The lower bearing dropped right on the stem. After the bearing cooled, I liberally greased the bearing on the stem and then I made sure I had the upper bearing well and properly grease. The new races, I drove into place into the steering stem with a socket that would fit inside the steering stem and fit onto the bearing race. You have to make sure the races are driven completely into their proper seats and make sure to keep the proper race with the proper bearing. Then once you slide the greased lower bearing up into it's race, drop the upper bearing on and drop another seal into place and then screw on the bearing retainer cap. Oh yeah, I had to remove the rubber seal that was on the bottome of the bearing retainer cap for it to fit right. Then it's just tighten down the bearing retainer cap making sure you still have the proper movement of your triple trees. Then it's just install the upper triple tree and reinstall the rest of your front end.
