new (to me) 1986 200x

so i picked up a 1986 200x today from a craigslist ad. paid $450 for it. here's the lowdown:

the guy i got it from moved here from california some years back. while living there, he bought it from the original owner. supposedly it had a new piston and top end, work done to the rear shock, had the frame powder coated white and some customizing (as you can see from the pictures). the seller told me he rode it about a year after moving to texas, then burned the clutch up pulling tree stumps from his yard with it after hurricane ike a few years ago. it's been sitting ever since.

the clutch cover is off and all of the clutch and parts are removed. so i'm not sure if all the parts are there, and i think part of the clutch basket is broken. supposedly the clutch is the only problem with it, other than some good ole TLC. these pictures are from my phone, i will be getting some better ones posted soon.

That's really nice! 2nd gen 200xs are hard to find, and there very easy to work on! Have fun!

Try looking at the manual in the world class help section. Try to look at teh parts to teh clutch, I would say hellish deal!! Even with the clutch issuie. Looks clean.
But is it just me or is that the Light that goes on it??

no, no questions... yet. i've got a manual downloaded and have been looking it over a bit. that's not the stock headlight for it, it was just slapped on there.

i have no idea on the pipe yet. all i had time for yesterday was to snag this baby and get it in my garage. i plan on going over it and cleaning it up, then get some better pictures of it all.

X-2 on the left hand nut, you will have to reuse it so do not beat it up to bad. looks like a good deal for sure.

thanks everyone! about 2 minutes after my wife figured out that it wasn't our other 83 model 200x, her words were "is it mine?" gotta love it. thanks for those pointers guys, and please keep them rolling in as they cross your mind! chazz you mentioned an 85 250r headlight, i think the one in the picture is that one. the white one is from an 87 250sx. i think they both fit it well, although the red one is stitched up, and i just recently made myself a camera mount with a bolt (which sucks, will be removing). i really like the white one, so i may end up with that on there.

Looks like a steel Cobra or DG RCM exhaust with a Sparky spark arrestor on it. I'll beat DC to saying it - get decompression cable for it before the kicker shaft beaks off. Saw a cable on ebay the other day.

i think the brake lever is like that from brake fluid either leaking out or not getting properly cleaned off after a filing, and years of baking in a garage during the summers.

the pipe looks alot like the cobra pipe that is on my 83 200x. thanks for the heads up on the decompression cable!

hell yeah that's a suzuki samurai in the background! it's got a spoa lift, folding shackles on the leaf springs and no shocks in the rear. stock motor and gearing. i had my front diff welded just recently but i don't like it. that thing does more than i need with it open up front. i've got that and my trikes for playtime!

That sounds like a little tank. My grandfather has a willys jeep he lets me use. That thing is awesome, ive been looking for a cheap samurai but everyone i find is either a rusted pile of junk or they want 6k for it.
