Thats my question, I want an opinion on the machine, anything you like and dislike about it?

My brother used to own one and I used to ride it sometimes. When he first bought it the thing smoked horrible and the primary clutch was burnt out (it wouldnt engage until a third throttal). When he got it running better it was a lot of fun. For starters I liked the electric start and full suspention, up untill then I had not owned a trike with those features. It seemed fairly fast and could muscle its way throught a lot of mud. The biggest downside was that it was heavy, very heavy. When it did get stuck it wasn't fun trying to get it out.

ya mine smokes really bad right now to, do you know what it was that caused all of the smoke on his?

Or does anyone know what the common thing is to go on the yamaha's? valve seals?, because my smokes really bad but still had lots of compression.??

I own a mint 85' DX right now, I've had a few in the past also. IMO it is one of the best wheelie and trail riding trikes of all time. I can go through all gears in a wheelie. Most definently the "Cadillac" of the trails.

We honed the cylinder, put new rings in, reseated the valves, and put in new valve seals. That took care of most of the smoke but then he had to adjust the air/fuel mixture because it was running rich. How does yours run other then the smoke?

I've got an '84. Good all-around trikes - smooth, comfortable ride, decent power (pretty much on par with a '83 - '85 200X, slightly less than a 250SX), the shaft-drive is really nice and maintanence free but it rather limits the machines top speed to right about 50mph. The suspension numbers are alot less than the 200X's but its right around the 250SX's. Parts are becoming pretty hard to come by though.

Mine runs perfect except for the thick patch of smoke that is always behide be :D

WickedFinger have you ever had your clocked? I have seen postings of 55-63 mph also is that a small front tire you are running on the front of your dx? it looks like a 20 inch, trying to keep the front end down lol?

I hate to tell you this, but there isn't an 85' DR. DR's were only made in 86'. So, 85' would be a DX like mine. I was clocked on the highway by gps on mine at 61.

Getting pics soon.

The 225DX is a very good trike. IMO they handle better than the 250sx the only thing the DX lacks is reverse when comparing to the 250sx.

Wickfinger is that the 225dx you got for free off of PA ATV forum?

Trike man 250 the DR was made in 85 too.

I am like 99.9 % sure that they make a 85 225DR, because I own one ;)
Also I know that 3ww does not have the specs for the 85dr but there was a 85drn and a 85drs which they do have specs for.

REDMAN225 - that is a sweet looking trike you have, it looks new.

Ive had my 85 since 1991, and I was the second owner. The only problem Ive ever had, as the U joint went out. I put more miles on that thing then most people can dream of. Seriously... everyday from 10:00 am till dark, for 4 or 5 summers I rode her nonstop. Ive never had to bore, ring, or do anything to my motor. From my experience, I would recommend, and buy another if I could. :D

Oh, Yamaha wants a fortune for a U joint, and it took me almost 5 years to finally find one for a decent price. She runs like a top again now
