Alright Fella's, I'm gonna Test your Knowledge here....

I mistakenly bought a 1980-82 Shift shaft off of Ebay. 3x3-18101-00 (However, it was a great deal)
I have a 1983 YT125 that needs one. 5V6-18101-00 (correct #for my year)....I know....I know....do my homework, I think the ad was printed as saying will fit all years......(thats my story, & I'm stickin to it)

The shafts are physically the same length & diameter, & The snap ring groove lines up.
However the 83 shaft has the extra arm lever with a spring attached to it, whereas the '80-82" shaft does not.
My question:
1. Can I use the 80-82 shaft in place of a 83 shaft?
&,
2. What does the extra arm/spring do?

Thnx In advance guys/gals....

mabey because since the 80-82 shift pattern is 1 down neutral then 4 up?? and 83-35 is neutral 1-5 up
