Now that I got you attention!!! is it possible to send out a set of pitted fork tubes and have the pits smoothed out and then nickel chromed? Anybody try something like this before. :wondering:wondering:wondering

Depends on how deep the pits are, I have a set of tr-z lowers that I chromed that look good with a few pits that were to deep and show a little. And yes you can chrome aluminum!!!! Otherwise you can polish them and will look awesome....

I believe he is talking about the upper stanchion part of the fork. I am curious what this would cost as well..

It can be done but welding and what not to clean the pitted tubes, not to mention the plating will cost alot more than waiting for a very nice set to come along.

I know there is a site called "forking by frank". Maybe you want to contact them and see if they could make you a set of fork tubes?

I got a set of fork tubes from them in the mid 90's and they were a perfect fit. The tubes were still in production(probably still are ) but were about half the price of oem

you could probably find a nice used set cheaper but having the peace of mind of new is nice to have. It seems that 84 forks are pretty easy to find cheap. You could get a set for an 84 and switch the lower leg on the brake side or switch both

There are specialist shops that do just this kind of work.
The tubes are ground back on a centreless grinder to remove pits and scoring and then hard chromed back to there original dimension.
They can reclaim just about anything, but it ain't cheep.A reputable Co. in the U.K I know charges around 240 dollars!!!

It's easier said than done. Dan was looking for a set for his build last spring and couldn't come up with a thing. I lent him a set that were pretty darn nice, but still not up to snuff for the quality of his build.
