Hey guys, I was just curious of the differences between the three year models of the 250 Big Reds that you all know of? I know the '87 has a grey seat and grey dash plate cover vs black on the other models, along with owners manual holder in the trunk, and different decals(for all 3 years). I've heard the '87's ride better for some reason too. My buddy had an '86 that had a built in steering lock on the tripple tree. Any other differences that you all know of? Just curious...

I have an 87 and an 86 and have noticed a few differences between them. The cam chain tensioners are different, the starter gear covers are different, the "helmet holders" are in different locations..probably many more that i haven't noticed or forgot about too.

Also, both my 87 and 86 have the owners manual holder in the trunk, so that must not be just an 87 thing..

I'm not 100% positive, but I believe that the rear end was different on the 1986 & 1987 models. That being the swingarm and the rear drum brake which was better sealing to help keep the water out.

I have noticed those differences too with the starter and helmet holder, I think the handlebar switch assembly was black and red on the '85, and was black with yellow and red on the '87.
