Need some help on rear end of ATC 200

I'm replacing the bearings in the rear of my 83 ATC 200. I got the bearings out, well there was only 1 in there lol. Anyways, there was a tube in there about the legth of the carrier minus the bearings and it just slid out. There are some holes drilled in it in different areas. Is this supposed to be in there? Is it supposed to come out?

If anyone has any idea on what this is, please help me out, I dont want to put it back together wrong.

That is just a spacer between the bearings. Yes it should be there.
