Hello, its me again, captain sputter at high rpms. I noticed that my cdi is a Dynatec FS. Could this be the problem. I put a 195 jet in her and she looked lean. WTF? A few more days and she might be for sale. this is killing me. It pulls like a scolded whore until I get the rpms up. I know it will hall a#$, but I cant quite get her there.

Been looking at CDI's. What is a reliable one? for 86R? Has anyone else had problems with the dynatec FS?

It seems that it starts sputtering at a certain rpm. I am thinking cdi having trouble giving a spark at this certain rpm. Is this a feasible statement or am i an idiot.

Modern (post 70's) electronics are usualy not subject to variations in performance based on RPM unless there is a specific vibration occuring at "X" RMP that is causing a wire, or kill switch componant to move or something. I have no idea what your trouble shooting has entailed so far, but carb/intake is where I'd start looking. Crap in carb, or filter first and reeds second. As long as your electronic componants are snug, clean and well connected and you have the correct plug and gap I doubt you have an electronic problem if the ONLY time it occures is at high RPM. As far as being judged an idiot that will depend of wheather or not you sell your trike :)

Camexican, I have thoroughly cleaned the carb, brand new v force 3 reeds. Clip change and main from 150-200. Plug reads slightly lean on all the mains and the motor runs the same from 150-200. Brand new stator and ignition coil and no change. Many many spark plugs, gap changes. Clean new uni filter with box and no lid.

How old is that clean carb? Are signs of wear on the slide?

Any signs of wear on the carb slide? What condition is the intake boot in? Is the pipe well sealed? No chance it has a crack?

Pipe is new with no cracks or leaks, the intake boot is brand new and in good shape not tryrotted. It seals well. The carb slide looks good. There is no wear on the carb at all.

have you done anything with your stator yet?

This is not the same machine but it is the same brand cdi. I had a dynatec FS on my 07 grizzly 660, it lasted about 400 miles and it did the same thing that you are describing on your R. I put the stock cdi back on and the problem is gone. My grizz would start to sputter like it was hitting the rev limiter and also backfire like crazy. Just for grins I tried to put the dynatec back on to see if I might of had a bad connection, the grizz ran like crap again.

Yes, muthey, I replaced the stator and it stilled sputtered. Briano, it sounds like i may finally solve this. Will order a CDI tonight. thanks
