This machine was originally owned by a paving company. It had a brake light and horn wired up, a trailer hitch, and a few other semi-odd mods to make it useful for running around large paving jobs.... It apparently suffered some clutch problems, probably from being forced to pull very heavy equipment, and was left to sit some time in the 1980's. About 6 years ago it was purchased at some sort of equipment auction by the guy I got it from. He had it running but did not address the original problem and ended up letting it sit another 5 yrs.

I got this machine a few months ago. The original tires had good tread but were dry rotted into oblivion. I fixed some stuff, ordered some parts, fixed some more stuff...and here it is. I am enjoying it

also here is a pic of my indestructible 250sx, purchased 6 years ago for $100, it has had a good number of hours put on it since then and never misses a b eat. I may even give it the cam chain it is crying out for some day

Most excellent!
I got one like it from a commercial landscaper.
He was selling Hundreds of pieces of equipment but the sx wasn't listed.

yup, make sure diff oil is good
and consider doing the chain.
and it will be good for another 1/4 century.

My favorite comment is:
"do this and that to 'em and they'll run forever....AGAIN!"

yeah, I need to get a handle on the cam chain replacement- find out what is required and what it will cost

Chain on the 185 or 250?

I'm sure you know about the oil filters on the 250, only want to go in ONE way but
can go in wrong.
Oil is correct too?

I'm just trying to think of anyway that the chain slap could be something else.
My sx 'new' was so noisy I was dreading a chainjob but it turned out to be
valve adjust and sickeningly glooopy orig oil filter.
