Okay, so the other day i decided to do my own exhaust. And this is just a thread showing my progress.

Step 1, cut up a stock exhaust, just the midpipe off.

Step 2, clean it up and get some custom pipe same size to weld up to curve the way you want.

Step 3, more cleaning and welding it into place

Step 4, Buying a 9 inch long 3 inch wide, 1.75 inch ID, glasspack from summit racing and welding it

Step 5, welding on a tip and spark arrestor. (custom)

Step 6, going to finish welding, grind more, and then high heat paint and then cure the paint.

Pics soon...

Not to be a dick, but won't that be obnoxiously loud?
Thats the reason a lot of riding areas get shut down.

loud pipes save lives

Maybe on the pavement, off road they get riding areas shut down and make off roaders look like we don't care about the non off roading people we come across while riding off road. And with the dumb@$$es in my neighborhood flying around on their uncorked 450 quads I can understand how.

Hey 350xx, I bet your pictures of the fabrication will calm
everyone down.
Maybe it's for some racetrack event, but doesn't backpressure change the carb jetting
requirements too?

I got so aggravated with a tapered cobra muffler on an sx
I kicked a 'large sized' 4 dollar rototiller muffler into it and walked away, so pretty sure I'm
NOT the one to give advice.
Virtually the same baffle and pipe diameter as stock so I hopefully won't burn valves
but I also hate wearing earplugs to ride and do NOT enjoy the olympic jet change guessing game.
It never seems to end well for me.

The pipe pix look like 2 stroke stuff so there's gotta be some equally neurotic
statistics on 4 stroke info too but that's all I could find at the moment.

I've just seen too many people jetting and rejetting carbs for DAYS
because of an exhaust change.

To everyone who says it will be loud or blasted him for using a glasspack.......

Are any of you aware that pretty much all aftermarket silencers are glass packs?

Since he said his is 9'' long thats about twice as long as a Cobra/DG/Supercrap/ (put name here) and will dampen about twice the sound. it should be much quieter then your thinking.

The problem with any glasspack is that the packing will blow out, and he wont be able to repack it like you can with most any ATV silencer.

So other then looks, weight, and lack of repacking it it should sound ok for awhile.

Loud pipes are only part of the issue why places get closed down. It's also because of idiots that trespass on private property, trashing the areas by riding stupid, littering, vandalizing, stealing, foul language, drinking and doing drugs, etc...

I have a DG RCM aluminum exhaust system on my 350X and it's loud when I want it to be. When Im putting around it's a little louder than a stock exhaust. If Im around houses I back off the throttle and pass by as quiet as I can. I think a lot of people forget their manners when they're riding.

Okay buddies, i love all the replies. And it has a really interesting range and sounds great. When i put around from no throttle to 1/4 throttle it is barely loud at all and you can talk over it. when you floor it, it is as loud as a namebrand, maybe louder. but the thing is, This pipe is customized for myself, with a downpipe, and a "spark arrestor".
Pics as promised xD

This is the original design haha.

For some reason my pictures wont work..

131736
Ahh there we go, here is the glass pack mocked up on the midpipe. (yes i know its backwards, i turned it around before welding)

131737
Almost ready for paint :D

131738
All painted up =]

131739
All DONE!!!!

I would have had a lot more photos but none of them will work -.-
You get the idea.
Looks great, except my crappy beginners welds, and sounds awesome!
No rejetting needed guys. I just adjusted the pilot screw after pulling the plug. Runs great. HONDA.

Youtube video soon guys!

GeoD,
Same with this pipe, you just run low throttle and its fairly quiet, for people, houses, etc.

I was going along reading all of the replies here and was thinking the same thing. Guys, a glass pack is essentially the same exact thing as most of the mufflers you are using right now!

How much did it cost you in materials to fab up?

YOU GUYS. THIS COST 25 dollars!

My riding areas in washington there is a sheriff, and he will bust you before the place gets shut down.
And the noise isnt the main reason things get shut down.
GeoD knows whats up.

C'mon guys, No matter if its loud or quite I think he did a great job for a beginner!!!!!! Keep up the great work and you will learn how to weld and fab.... everybody has to start somewhere!!!

6 for paint, 13+shipping for glasspack, a few bucks for the amount crappy flux core wire used, and then spare pipe found around the garage.
This is what you do when your original exhaust gets beat to hell but your midpipe is still in good condition.

Thanks badass350x. This was my first project. It turned out okay. Give me a break guys im only 19 and havent welded that much in my life. Hey, practice makes perfect.

Hey 350xx. I got so caught up with my post I forgot what this thread was all about! LOL!! I apologize and I want to say you did a fine job!! That's probably be the best $25 you will spend on your macheen! What did you use to bend the pipe? Keep at it and you might be the next custom exhaust builder for ATCs!!!

I haft to agree. I'm really curious what this sounds like in a decent quality video. I've got several never used glass packs like the one you have used and I was just going to scrap em'! Now you got me thinking of what I could do with them. :D .I should also add that I think you did a Fantastic job considering that was your first time welding.

Now go build another one but out of stainless. That would awesome :D.

Sounds good! Love the X by the way, not saw too many with the disc cover on the front. Plus the mudflap, as well as the fender brace AND a six pack rack, not sure if the brush guards are HL for the 350X, or aftermarket, but nice!

I don't think that it is that loud, considering. I think it is a great concept, especially when on a budget! Good job!

Hey guys, since i got so many people talking, im going to use an hd camera and get a good quality video up on youtube so you guys can hear what it really sounds like, after reviewing the vids i realized you cant really tell what it truly sounds like, you hear a bunch of noise but dont get the right feel. So that will be tomorrow morning :] Then i will post it to the thread soon after. Excited to take this to Capitol Forest ORV in Olympia, WA.

Yeah, the trail pros are kinda weird. I never liked them in the past. But i got them for free on rims! So i tried them out. I run them at 2 psi to keep them from getting too balloony and to get extra traction. they work surpisingly well, and theyre an all around good tire. Havent tried them in mud much.. they kinda suck in mud imo. Like i get stuck instantly...hahaha. Anyway. They were free and they are tall to give me a higher gear ratio. No complainin here!
