I got my 200x engine back together and I was connecting the head pipe and the muffler. I started it up and its leaking out of the joint. there was a piece of some kinda cloth, like asbestos there, but I lost it... what should I use to fill the gap? thanks

In a pinch some exhaust wrap will work if you can't get the actual gasket. I have used exhaust wrap on other pipes and have good luck with it.

also u can pick up a tube of the Muffler Sealant. Works pretty good, Not the best, But will do for a little while, Just keep an extra tube in your trunk if needed..
Or get some of the Aluminum Tape for Hot water heaters or Whatever. the metal tape. Might do the trick cheap
Or grab a socket that will fit in there lol!!!

Then grab some black velvet and cover the trike..cuz it's COOL!! LOL
Hell no, do what 'rodknock' say and get the right stuff.
If you start McGyvering your trikes they will look like crap, run like crap, and probably break down when it's least convienient..I know it's just a exhaust donut this time, but do it right!!
I can't tell you how many trikes I bought from some dink who monkeyed the repairs over the years..alot of time and money to undo that crap and put it right.
Show some pride in your work and your machines!!! Some patience, the right tools, the right parts they will look good and last forever.

These are 25+ year old machines..if they break show them the respect deserving of a vintage machine and fix them with pride, not duct tape and wire!!
Doesn't have to be actual Honda parts, though that would be perferred. Many here have lots of non-Honda original parts on their trikes..I do.
Save your money, fix it right and it will last another 25 years..take pride in your ride!!

Check out the 'bolts' that were holding my 125m exhaust to the head.
One is a lag screw and the other is a bolt with a 7/16ths head.
Dontcha just love the aluminum impacted threads?

Some of the best advice ,word for word you will ever get. We're trying to be nice, and respectful,,coming from a GOOD place.. RIGGING only COSTS money!!! If you don't have the money to fix it,,save until you do. It is FAR more fun to have a machine repaired solidly and correctly then rigged and wearing 6 other parts out. I've seen it 1st hand for 23+ years now. Simple shoulder washers,,,,that let the fenders sag ,,and eventually cost the ENTIRE set of plastic. ETC,,,,,good luck!

ok, so Not the headpipe to head but
pipe to muff?
200x.
I just took that 'same' joint apart on a 250sx.
seemed like some brittle whatever coller/sleeve that had trouble even holding itself together.
What I did like was the clamp.
It was about an inch and a half long with 2 bolts holding it together.
Not sure what I'll do about putting it back together.
Seems like that sleeve you describe may be more of an insulator
to keep the pipes from fusing together, AND keeps it from spitting exhaust.
How much was it?

It was $13 and the local honda dealer had them on hand. but just trying to put it together, it crumbled... seems like it was cheaply manufactured, but it was honda...

lag screws ... dam.
I had a head like that, took some work to fix, drilled and tapped it to a 5/16 course, threaded in a grade 5 bolt, potted it in with JB weld, cut it flush, THEN drilled and tapped the 6mm hole, threaded in a honda stud ..DONE!!!! maybe $3, but it took about an hour.

so sorry.
I think I'll look into woodstove gasket technology and just take the heat.
All it has to do is not leak, right?

That is what will work even better then the Honda oem stuff. The wood stove gasket is what you need. It won't fall apart on you and will hold up if you need to remove it ,it won't fall apart. Good luck with your fix.
