Well I got an 85 350X entering my stable in a couple months, and I was plannin on pickin up a first gen 200x to complement it (Kinda like big brother/little brother). Now the 200x I plan on taking my time to find will be a decent condition rider that will get a cam, pipe, carb, and possibly high comp piston treatment. Thanks to Bill (atc007) I no longer have a liquid 250R and it looks like I'm entering 4 stroke land, well I gotta have a 2 smoker to even things out.
I was plannin on piecing together a nice quality 85-86 R (Possibly powervalved or 310-330), but I think an ATC125R may be a fun little ripper. Chassis would be first gen 200x with a liquid CR125 powerplant with porting and polishing, larger carb, and of course a hand made sectional expansion chamber. Trike would be built low and wide for flat-tracking and Ice racing. I thought about a Blaster motor but I hate those guys that put a 350 in their fox-body stangs, so CR125 it is.

My questions are has anyone done this, what kinda fabrication am I lookin at (besides expansion chamber building), what year CR125 should I be looking at (would like parts availability out the wazoo), and would this be a nice peppy little ripper?
I've never ridden a 125 so I'm wondering about power and hop up capabilities, and if it would be worth it.
I just feel like doing something a little different. I imagine 125's rev really high so I think it would sound and run sweet on a circle track (18 inch tires on 10 inch rims is also what I was thinkin).

One more thing were all CR125s powervalved?
Any input or comments would be greatly appreciated, even color combos, I want this thing to stand out.
Thanks,
Ty

I know the CR250's were powervalved but I can't say for sure on the 125's. I have a KDX 80 air cooled and that thing runs like a raped ape, my dad had a YZ 125 and that could dig a trench if you wanted to, so I would imagine a CR125 would have decent power delivery as long as you did the expansion champer right. Mess with gearing, sprockets are a cheapish way to get more top end or more bottom end depending on want. As for the colors, how about sparklez and pink?! Just kidding. I always liked the classic Dodge Challenger Plum Crazy Purple. Beautiful color

White definantly. White plastics, either red or blue seat, black striping.

Nah, I think the seat should be plum crazy purple to match the frame and accessories. I think the yellow plastics would really set it off.
I'm just wondering how tall a CR125 motor is, I think it should fit in without choppin up the frame.

air cooled cr not powervalved but i think once liquid cooled came they were, i know 81 was 1sr year liquid cooled. what year cr are ya looking for, i prefere 96-97 motors the best, last years 6speed.

then 97 is your max year, id go 93-97 motor if ya can, good bikes. but ya might as well go buy the entire bike since they are only about 700-800 now days. and i thought of doing the same thing with a 125 a nd 86 200x lol but i know better.
