How do you remove the fuel filter from inside the tank?I thought it came out with the petcock but it stays in the tank.Does it remove or is it pressed in?I dont won't to go yanking on for fear of damaging it.:wondering

Hi Rich,

I had the same issue the other day, the last time it came off with the petcock when I was working on another tank. I think if you try and pop it out from inside the tank that would be best, there is'nt really much to get hold of from the outside.

Cheers,
Nick.

on the 85 big reds and sx's, there's a plastic tube the size of 1/2 pencil that
sticks up inside the tank.
It's about 1/2 solid tube and 1/2 screen material.

This may not be the right way but I got a heavy threaded lag screw/bolt
and just supercarefully screwed it into the tube from the outside,
say 1/4 turn.
Just enough to bite it but not expand it and they was able to yank it out.

I think a gentle pull with a slide hammer would work too.

...or see if they are cheap and available and try not to destroy the old one to get it out.

Ok, now why would it HAVE to come out?

to clean the tanks with muriatic acid?
to seal the tanks with por 15?

My latest trick is to simply clean tanks with screaming hot water and dishsoap,
Dry them with a hairdryer comPLETELY, light rinse with
HEET, that super evaporative fuel additive and blow them out with a long
tube air gun and them keep 'em full of non ethanol gas.
No air/oxygen, no rust.

I worked mine out with a pick and needle nose pliers on my 200x. Just be very careful not to damage it unless you are sure you can get a replacement.
