I just bough a very nice 200x very good condition but this thing is slow. I have never rode one were they all slow like this i would sya this thing will only do 40mph is there anything i can do or is this machine always going to be slow also they feel like they need a sixth gear it feels like it has more motor just runs out of gears

Well, it sounds like you just answered your own question. Change the gearing. Of course the tires have something to do with gearing as well. If you change one of your sprockets and soon change your rear tires, then it may very well mean you will have to change your gearing again.

X2^
Also, what size rear tires are on it? 22" is stock, but some people put on 20" or even 18". That'll gain you power but drastically reduce top speed.

Buy a 350X.

Stroke it, bore it, run on alcohol, run an XR200 6 speed tranny and run a turbo with an accelerator pump carb. That'll boost the power.

or a fresh top end and gearing will do plenty

i ran a gps on my friends 1983 200x, original motor, no muffler (fell off), 20" rear wheels and i could hit about 48mph on the dirt, might be something wrong with your engine.
my 200x has a fresh top end, look at sig, and its still slow, i havent used the gps yet bc i busted my pulse generator but i could pace my truck and my car on the asphalt around 53mph with stock gearing and a 22" rear tire. i know that car speedometers are always off but i know its much faster than my friends stock 200x

Not impossible, but of course it wouldn't be a stock bike, not by a long shot...

14/37 gearing works awesome with 18 inch tires (assuming the motor is strong). Mine had mostly just bolt on mods and with that size tire and gearing it moved along just fine.

14/37 gearing works awesome with 18 inch tires fine.

What is stock gearing?
Trying to decide what sized tires to go with because I need some new ones.

See this is what happens, you bought a 200x. Yeah its so fun, does some sweet wheelies and it goes pretty fast. Then you want something more, a 350x maybe? Sure lets try that! damn this thing has torque and can power slide around corners like a beast!!! However.......for some reason you have this itch it just doesn't scratch. Is it the top speed? is it the acceleration?? you just don't know. You hear all this hype about the 250r, but you have always avoided it because you don't want to own a three wheeled death machine. Despite all of that you buy one. DAMN this thing halls ass!! it spits rocks in 6th gear at your buddies so fast it gives them welts the size of cantaloupes. BUT YOU STILL WANT MORE! You're chasing the three legged dragon buddy. You better nip that in the bud while you still can!!

I second that!

Everyone I get seems faster than the last one.
My latest sx has an accelerator pump carb on it and pretty sure I haven't
hit full throttle yet.
With 7 or 8 running 250 cc models, this one is bay far, the most impressive.
I wonder if there's a pump carb for the x?
Do people put nitrous on these things?

How fast, I guess, is what you want the machine to do.
Top speed?
or off the line quickness to outrun a bees nest or pitbull.
or a rocketship from a to z.

I just looked at a watercooled 250R for 2 grand.
I bet that thing would launch a hangglider.

Scaryfast comes to mind.

It comes down to the almighty dollar , very simple . How much money you want to put into it / how fast you wanna go. With speed then comes better suspension then comes more money. It's a vicious circle , I dumped about a grand into the motor/carb set up on my 250R. Am i happy ? Well i guess but now i wish it had better suspension . Will i dump more money into it ? Hell no , it is what it is . A 1984 3 wheeler , if i ever decide to sell it i would be lucky to see half the money i got into it. Just keep that in mind while your thinking about building up or dumping alot of money into your 1980's atc. Most guys do this for their passion of the atc maybe you should just buy a newer faster bike , i dunno. Just my thoughts.

20's are the all around best bet for you Alex. If it was strictly for racing you would probably want 18's.

Stock is 12/40 with 22 inch tires.
