I just acquired a nice 200ES and runs fine but the drive shaft makes rattling noise when push it backwards , it does not seem to do it when i am running it just when i need to move it out of the way to get to another trike , its the only drive shaft trike i have right now so i don't have another one to compare it with .. Should i be worried about the rattling noise??

Thanks in advance..

Mondo..

Mine on my SX is pretty quiet, you may want to check the pinion bearing. I know its a dumb question but did you check the oil level and it's condition? You would be suprised how many people overlook changing the gear oil in them.

200?

You've got fwd and reverse and hi lo trans.
Sometimes a gear set may be close to each other because a shifter is not
quite all the way in or out.

You say pushing it backwards it 'rattles"?
like maybe some gear teeth are kissing like th sound you get sometimes trying
to go INto gear and the 'gears' rattle against each other trying to mesh in?

I'd clunk it into each gear, f, r, hi, and lo and rock the trike back and forth.
and then neutral and see if anything makes sense.
NOT running, of course.

While you're in each gear option, rocking back and forth and see if the 'backlash'
is dramatically different in each gear option.
and make sure your hi lo shifter has a nice positive 'clunk' when you change from one to the other.
and that you toe shifter isn't coming loose and shifting only part way.

Reverse gear may not be disengaging all the way.
Worst case? missing a tooth on reverse gear perhaps but that never happens.

I'd bet it's shift linkage related.

let us know what you find.
x2 on the gear oil too.

Does the shaft make a popping / clunking noise when put under load?
