ANYONE RUNNING PUMP GAS ON THERE TRI-Z BIG BORE? I HAVE 170PSI. I TRIED 93OCT 40:1 AMS AND IT DETONATES, TRIED 93/AV 40:1 AMS STILL, TRIED AV WITH 40:1 AND LESS BUT STILL DETONTES.

Where is your timing plate set at max?

I had to retard the timing on my big bore a few degrees, but I still run 110.

Does it detonate consistent under load, or only when you smack the throttle open you hear one "knock sound"?

Hmm, whatcha running for a spark plug,, and how hot is it running...? Whats your squish on your head? Sure its not something else making funny noises? Tri z"s seem to make alot of them.

Some of the Z engines with the coolhead, whether a 250, or big bore engine I have noticed will make single knock sound when you hammer the throttle wide open under a load.
It will just make the noise when you stab the throttle under a load one time.
I dont believe it is detonation, as Sprock and I have discussed it. I believe we came to the conclusion it is some type of resonance noise maybe from the trans gears or clutch basket .Mine rarely does it, and has not been a issue .
It did seem to get better when I retarded my timing, but I was having issues with mine running hot, and the kicker backfiring up during starting. The timing retard helped that.
I believe I went 1 notch retarded on the plate. I was running the stock timing settings then retarded it back one notch. This cooled the enigne down, made it easier to start and got a little more top end.

When you had your head off for the dome swap, was there any marks on top of the piston that indicated detonation?
pits, melt marks around the plug area, burned crown at the exhaust side?

But if your are getting a consistent deep knock or pinging sound consistent with engine rpm's, then something is wrong .
