Hey guys, just picked up an old 185 suzuki trike, it needs a new carb....my question is will a carb off of a honda 200 or something like that, with the same millimeter measurements fit on the suzuki..... I believe that the suz. 's measurements are 22mm and so is the honda 200m,(forget what year) -- any help would be great guys, thanks!!!

Why does it need a new carburetor? There's not much that can go bad on those, and rebuild kits are readily available. I'd stick with the stocker man.

I would agree. Do you have the stock carb?
Im afraid there probably not much specific hands on advice for your 185, as they are pretty rare.

well im not very familiar with carbs as it is, the carb is still on there, i just picked the machine up the other day and havent had time to pull the carb out yet, but the guy i got it from said " it needs a new carb and its carroded around the main jet" thats about all i know!

Unless you have tried to rebuild it I would try that first. A new carb is kind of spendy. (~$150). I would completely dissassemble the carb, sok the metal parts in carb cleaner overnight. Then clean them with an old tooth brush. Get a carb kit and replace all the jets and seals. It is a pretty easy process.

Yep, just take it apart and clean it, take all the jets out and clean them as well, using Gumout, or some other spray carb cleaner. Be sure you can blow cleaner or compressed air through every orifice. You may get mineral deposits or varnish, but carbs do not "corrode".

If you intend to re-use the rubber o-rings and gaskets make sure you don't let them soak in the carb cleaner, it will make them expand and deteriorate.

Are you sure fuel is getting to the carb? Do you have spark? These are your first two questions.

Give the spark plug the float test. Go to any body of water and throw the plug in. If it floats it is good. :-D . Seriously, if there is any ? about the plug just buy a nw one. I have seen lots of plugs that would spark when held against the motor but not make it run.

You DID unscrew all the jets right?? I was paranoid my whole life about "jet" removal until some of these guys smacked me around a couple years back. A clean fuel bowl means nothing, you have to get all those fuel passages spotless.

You may have already tried this, but make sure your fuel tank and petcock are clean. If you had a substantial amount of residue in your carb, then your tank and petcock will likely have the same, so even if your carb is getting fuel, you're just putting the same garbage right back in it. I would remove the tank and throw in a handful of washers and some paint thinner, then shake it like hell to remove all the rust and gunk. Then remove the petccock and make sure it is clean and flows freely.

Try to get it started on starter fluid or WD40 (Aersol Can Only). To do this you will have to spray it inside the carb from the air filter side. If necessary remove the air filter boot (Rubber) and then hold the throttle wide open and spary fluid in from the back side of the carb. Then try to fire her up. If starts and dies right away you know you have a fuel problem.
If you have a fuel problem which I would bet you do there is still something in the carb that is clogged.
Good Luck!

You can use a carb off from an lt185 quad if you really think you need a different one. They are the same engine just with a spare tire.
