Ok guys I need your help.

I may be buying another near mint 86 Tri Z (red and white). The question is: Should I restore it to its orginal condition like the one I currently have (see pic below)

or should I come up with a new color scheme?

I was considering the following:

- a color scheme much like the white and black 2001 raptor.

1) the fenders are still white, but the airbox cover and radiator shrouds are black

2) The bottom part of the airbox cover will fade into a white to match the fenders

3) The frame will be black at the neck and around the radiator shrouds and the airbox cover...but will fade into white

4) the headlight plastic will be painted light silver and it will have grey/silver fork boots.

5) Accents, rims, hubs, 'Z' lettering will be gold

So the question is: Do I leave it alone or change the color scheme? Really all that changes is the frame, radiator, headlight, and airbox cover...Fenders are still white.

Here are some pics of the year raptor I am trying to match the color scheme for:

That sounds sweet, doing a yamaha blue would be cool too.

ok...here it is..try to imagine this color scheme on the Tri Z...

remember the frame will fade from black at the top to white by the bottom of the air box cover.

Also the fork boots will be grey.

Reminds of a cop car for some reason. I definitely want to stay with gold rims.

I think it would look nice. A refreshing change if anything. I would take this Z, and make it into more of a beater. A nice beater, but something you won't feel bad about taking out and putting through its paces. No offense to you, but I'm not one to restore a bike to keep as a trophy.

i dont think u should make them the same, i wouldnt want two trikes that are exactly the same, a black and blue color scheme would look nice ;)

Sounds like a good idea but, A tri-z will never have the appearance of a raptor unless you used the raptor rear fenders, grill and the front fender came to a point at the front and looked like a giant tooth. I would say pick a color and paint the frame, swingarm, headlight guard, axle carrier, radiator guards, etc. And leave the plastic alone.Plastic and OEM stickers in great condition is always important when it comes time to sell. I'm sure whatever you decide will look good when finished. Goodluck

The black/white/gold should look really sweet, but I kind of like 200xer's idea about the blue and white z too. Either way it'll be something different and that's always nice to see.

If I were to do up another tri-z, it would be yamaha blue. Another cool thing I have seen is to use raptor rear fenders instead of tri-z ones. I have thought about using banshee rear fenders, but then thought they might look too boxy.
