Topic of the day is a 90, 'solid' looking cap with a tiny hole
underneath that will hold 30psi it seems, so I tried 3 'newer' 90 caps
with the little on off vent and they all seem to not suck.

Thinking back, I also have a few 250 sx br caps that don't want to cooperate either,
but I can't seem to throw them away.

I keep the tanks full with non ethanol gas so it's rare that I
open the caps to see if there's gas when they quit running.

Boil them?

has anyone ever gotten aggravated enough to rip one apart and see what goes bad?

Common wisdom states they are non fixable.

Does your gas cap have to be vented? OOH i suppose to let the gas out lol

or
pop another hole in the bottom of a dogfood can and it will fall right out.

most of the time it is rusted shut inside. i just take a VERY small drill bit and drill a hole in them from the outside. if it is the old ATC 90 you can get a new cap from Honda for around $18.

so when the nob its tuened to on then the vent is on (letting air in) when its on off the vent is off (not letting air through) correct?

I just don't twist the cap all the way on. As for fixing the cap I don't have any suggestions lol

yessiree.
and on some of mine, 'on' is really halfway to off, same as some of the fuel shut offs.

One of the silliest reason to get sidelined.

Pop the cap, make sure you have gas...ok it's NOT out of gas.
the (s.o.b.) will start and run a few hundred yards
and then quit like it's out of gas
and the cycle continues until we join support groups

how long?
wonder if carb cleaner will eat the rubber inside,
but maybe that's a good thing.
heck, they're useless paperweights as they are right now so what do I have to lose?

Thanks for the encouragement.
and welcome to 3ww btw

I'm thinking the spirits would work better, I would imagine carb cleaner would do more harm than good.

I know I have had cables that were froze right up after a day or two in used motor oil they were like new. I would think it would work the same for the gas caps and should be safe for rubber seals
