Ok, so I was going to take the kids out yesterday and the 125 didn't want to go into neutral. Now I try to shift and it doesn't go into any gear, once in awhile it will hit one and move but doesn't stay in long. I haven't tore into it yet, I will probably get into it today or sometime later in the week. What should I be looking for, keeping an eye open for? I have a shop manual that I downloaded. Should I take the engine right out or can I get to the tranny while its still installed?

Thanks,
Mike

Shift forks bent all out of whack maybe? That or the drum? Sorry, trannies aren't my specialty. I hear Fabiodriven knows his way around a tranny though.

Good to know, when I get this thing apart I will have to post some pics, then maybe someone can see something I'm not.

before tearing the motor open take a good look at the hi- lo switch and see if it is caught up, also have you tried to adjust the clutch pressure yet?

I had a problem with the hi lo switch when the kids were going back and fourth with it. The tranny wouldn't go into gear, it seems like its the same problem like something in there got stuck. I haven't tried to adjust the clutch pressure plate because I didn't know that you could, LOL. The hi low doesn't seem to be caught up , its full over into hi and I have tried to move it back and fourth and still nothing.

try adjusting the clutch and if that doesn't work then it's time to think about opening it up, on a side not have you looked at the chain and sprockets yet, might want to have a look at them as well

I don't think its the chain or sprocket, if I mess with the shifter I can get it into one of the gears, it just doesn't stay in long. Sometimes if I hold the shifter then the neutral light will go on but won't stay on if I let the pressure off.

is there any type of noises when you shift?

Nope, don't get a chance to shift, it really doesn't go into gear at all. I can hear it clunk like its going into gear but it doesn't go anywhere. Playing with the shifter I can usually get it into a gear for a bit but then it stops.

Well I played with it again and it would only go into 3rd gear I think and then pop out. I heard something bouncing around down below and then heard a noise, not really grinding but something didn't sound too good. Guess the engine is coming back out.

unfortunately I think that may be your only option

It kills me because this is a TRX125 with a 125m engine. The original engine had a bad tranny so I put the 125m engine into it and now that tranny crapped out. I guess I will have to start getting familiar with one of these trannies, LOL.
