View Full Version : How'd I do on this trade?

Traded my 1985 Honda 250sx for a 1984 Honda 200x. My 250sx was in rough shape. Front fender, back fenders, and headlight plastic was all cracked and zip tied. The wheels and frame were rusty and the rear tires had some dry rotting. The seat had a tear in it, and the tank had a dent in it. It didn't come with a battery and the tailight cover was broken.

The 200x that I traded for had been heavily powdercoated a few years ago and was in pretty good shape. It has a Cobra exhaust, ITP Holeshots on the rear, Moose bars, Pro Taper handguards and Rockstar grips, killswitch, twist throttle, 400ex rear caliper with blockoff plate, steel braided brake line, custom air filter setup with custom rear brake master cylinder. DG grab bar. New seat cover with custom design on it (not a big fan but it's better than a ripped seat cover!) Also 90% of the bolts have been replaced with stainless

Here's a couple pics of the 250sx followed by the 200x.

Does anyone know what kind of twist throttle that is? The only wording on it is "Made in Sweden". I might sell it and would like to know what I have.

id say u did well. mostly just for that original ohtsu from tire. that thing can pull quite a bit to the right buyer. u better get some oil on that pod air filter though....

i think its really funny how the 250SX pics r dirty and just how it sits, then the 200X is all freshly hosed off and wet, lol.

Based on what I'm seeing you got the better end of the deal by far.

Was that an even up trade?? If so you did well IMO! I have something similar for a twist trottle but says TCI,so not sure what ya got there, as long as it works good then you are ok!

Twist throttle is a Gunnar Gasser. Looks like you did real good. I'd look into that right hand footpeg though. Something going on there..

looks good (other than the seat cover) what is the square box with the hose attached to it ? if i were you i'd get a airbox for that thing if you ride anywhere near water or mud.

Actually the 250sx was clean (obviously the owner of the 200x is a better washer than me haha) but taken with a bad camera. The 200x hadn't been washed but the grass was wet and those pics were taken with a better camera.

84t3 - it was a straight up trade and he even included an extra swingarm, rear plastics and a front fork.

The footpeg isn't the one that belongs on there that's why it's slanted downwards. I have an extra set that I already put on. And thanks for the info on the twist throttle I really appreciate it!

buster - That's where the brake fluid goes. The previous owner liked fabricating lol

If you want a little more protection for that airfilter on the cheap, use a panty-hose cut to fit. I call it a "Ghetto Outerwears"

But yea you definitely made out great. You'd be surprised what kinda trades can go down, guess he just wanted an SX real bad. I'm lookin into an 85200x myself right now, but I do wish I still had my old 86250sx too.

BTW, how bad is the noise on the Cobra? I wanna get an aftermarket system but last I knew only Cobra made them for an 83-85, and last I heard all they were capable of was being obnoxious.

I personally like the tone of my cobra exhaust on the old 200x!!!

Ya it's pretty loud. I wouldn't say obnoxious but then again I'm used to loud pipes as I ride dirtbikes too. It certainly looks better than stock but I have a feeling your neighbors probably won't appreciate you! Don't get me wrong I like it a lot. Sounds more throaty than the stock pipe.

I would pull that front tire off. it looks to be in good shape and rare in good condition

How much would you say it's worth?

trizilla - I'd like to read that thread if you can find it. I've searched the first few pages of the Build-up Garage and haven't been able to find it.

the 200x is in better shape but if your going to do any real riding you will pry soon miss your sx, id get a stock airbox or the 1st little bit of water splash will leave ya stranded, i think you both come out happy with the trade
