Maybe the guy doesnt have any friends or family that has a truck, or maybe just friends or family in general!! His only friends are a neon and his new baby!! What else could you ask for...well maybe a 12 pack too!!

Seriously??? In situations such as this.. silence is a virtue..

My boy jonny pollock in ny had to go ride else where and no truck, so his tecate went on the roof of his 81 plymoth horizon for the ride. It looked at home up there and he got most of the roof pushed back out.

Gas saving andy that guy is decatied to get that bike MUGEN haha

Buster Brown

Yep, that's the ONLY reason for the car guys. Saved well over $400 in gas vs. taking my Chevy Suburban (454) and trailer. One time I picked up a bare frame and swingarm (still together) with my old Chevy Cavalier. It fit fine then across the back seat, so why not?? Then I though of the kid who put his Tri Z in the hatchback.....
This trip only cost about $200 in fuel and about 26 hours of my time. Just under 1700 miles round trip.
I just got home about an hour ago and snapped a few pics for fun. A little cramped and dirty in the cockpit. Took a couple naps on the way home. The stench of leaking gas kept me up otherwise....(LOL) We tried our best under the circumstances to drain it, but I wasn't up for too much fuss'n around after already being up 30 hours straight and still 800+ miles yet to go... Glad it's done, and now the Mugen bike will be complete. Off to do a little unloading and clean up.
Thanks Doug!

Oh, and the pipe and other precious parts were wrapped up for the trip. These pictures are kind of disgraceful to the rarity and significance of this old bike.

MY teeth still hurt from all that dew. It's always a chore to pull an all day & niter like that, but dcreel's rite. Every time I recall the trip I'll smile and shake my head. Good times for sure!

Thats awesome. Dont envy you having to deal with the gas fumes. Mountain Dew Throwback is good! :)
That pipe sure looks like a Jemco. Hit me up if you need any pics/measurements of mine. Excellent pipe, I bet it
compliments that cylinder very well. Nice Score! HH

Wish I had a CB radio to listen for the "Guy's got a dang bike is his car"
When stopping for gas last night, a couple guys accross the pumps asked what kind of bike I had in the back and why I came so far to get it. One had his face pressed to the glass look'n in.
I told them I was a "picker" from Wisconsin just passing through.
Well,..... the first part's true....

poohbee1-
I'm going to have to do some research before making any claims. The pipe is unlike anything I've ever seen before, with the use of two strips between a pair of stamped pieces. HH, what do you think of this pipe and the initial exit bends. Any thoughts are appreciated. Also this Dellorto carb that was on the bike before, kinda has me wondering. It all very well could be, but I'll have to dig deeper. The carb installed on it currently is something that Doug had just used to get the bike running. He only had possession of it about a week. LOL

The bike looks as though it took a good spill and just sat after. There is little wear on the usual areas, but the fenders each have a crash crack (not real bad). For example the front brake line guide is straight as can be, but broke in the usual spot. The axle has a decent cad/zinc plate finish still and the covers show minimal boot wear. The bearing carrier teeth as well as the swingarm look great. OLD nasty smelling gas though... UG! Stunk up my car something fierce. Wonder if that's maybe why the tank is so wine red ?? Anyway, this was a real treat to purchase. Going to make a good rider out of the rest of it. Been WAY too long since I've thrown a leg over one! Yee ha!

I won't speak for Doug, but had a very pleasant couple hours at his place and even cracked a couple beers.
What hospitality!:beer

The Carb is a Dellorto VHSB. Pretty popular in the 125/250 Karting world, and 2 stroke GP Bikes. Lots of info out there on them. They even made a trick magnesium version of it. Dellorto has been around for a long time, so I would consider that a period correct carb.

Buster Brown

Thanks HH. That's looks like a Jemco to me too. Spot on match. Yours looks killer all natural. Might go that route if you don't mind?? I'll see if I can't just rebuild the Dellorto for future use too.
The jug, carb, and pipe/silencer set up will all go on the already built '86 ATC250R with Mugen suspension (garage queen). Planning to make a "rider" from the rest of the carcass. I've got a real nice powdered '85 frame ready to go for the rider project.

Yeah definately a good evening. And im thrilled all that stuff went to someone who will enjoy it so much. Im not into the restoration aspect of stuff, i always end up modding anyways. Yeah andy had no idea he was getting that carb or tires. I sprung that on him when he got here...payback for shocking me by showing up in the tiny car i guess.

Go for it! I think it would look sweet for your bike as well. Its a TON of work tho. Plan on spending 4 hours on it, minimum.
If that pipe was sand blasted before it was coated I'm not sure how it will turn out. Should still clean up. Its not hard to do, just takes
time. Let me know when you are ready to strip it, and ill give you a couple pointers. Im doing my T-3 JWR Bassani right now.
Not sure what its gonna look like, its pretty rusty... HH

Buster, the look of pure determination on your face with that crescent wrench in hand made me lol.

A bike with that cylinder and pipe is worth a trip like that, one to remember for sure.

I can't wait for the final pics of this Mugen 250R. Great thread.
