Totally rebuilt this engine, new rings, piston , i bye passed oil injector . it wants to fire but i know its my carb settings, any one know where i should set the air and throttle set screws? is the choke realy important to get it started ? because its just a 3 inch cable and hard to hold while pull starting,,,, srry its a yamaha yt 175

Backfire on 2 stroke is a sign of lean condition..choke could totally be your issue. She's telling your she needs more fuel!!

thats alot of oil. to much oil causes a lean fuel to air ratio. my old yt always needed to be choked when cold. get a helper to hold it or pull the cable and clamp it with vise grips

iam thinking oil should be 30:1? any body know how many ozs per gal that is? and if i bypassed the oil injector would theses set screws that adjust throttl and idle lean even be used? ugg should of just kept oil injector hooked up ! lol

You need to look at your specific brand of oil that your using... It will have the mix ratios right on the bottle......

it stopped at 40:1 small 3.2 oz bottles, quaker state

That probably was 1 bottle of oil for a 1 gallon of gas... I hope you premixed that 12+ ounces to 4+ gallons!

40:1 is 3.2oz to 1 gal , 32:1 is 4oz per gal...so i should of used 4.2 oz per gal for 30:1 sound right? so i should of used just a few oz,s over three gallons of gas?

Your math looks pretty good to me... Is your sparkplug new?

after i cleaned the old one i got more response, but yes i did buy a new one, but spark looked kinda weak, then again when was the last time i looked at a small engine ? never lol, it was running when i took it apart, was getting gas in crank case, got a different crank case and trans new gasket set, trans is from a yt125, but i bet its my oil to lean now that you all helped me think about it,i mean its 4.2 ozs of oil to thick! lol

Do you have an air filter on the trike while trying to start it? If you don't have an airfilter or are using anything other than the stock airbox, you have a lean condition. Beware starting your trike or it may death rev, meaning run away with a lean condition. Be prepared to pull the spark plug wire if it starts and revs out of control. Make sure carb slide works normally inside the carb and closes all the way while the thumb throttle isn't being pushed. Make sure throttle cable doesn't hang up. Make sure you have gas going into the carb. Try a small shot of starting fluid in the carb and see if it fires. Not much either mind you as it can be bad for a 2 stroke engine as it cleans the oil out of the top end. Keep a fire extinguisher handy!!!! If it does decide to fire and backfires on you, well, can shoot flaming gas out of your carb. Don't ask me how I know this! LOL

After i added the extra gallon of gas to the mix it sounded better, real late so didn't try to hard , also sounds like ill be using jack stands on the rear end! also i have a real short starter cord, sundays another day

well a short cord can be a big problem in itself. call you buddies (probably need two or one good strong one) or push it a steep hill. then push staet it!
