My 83 225dx was letting gas run out the overflow on the carb. I lowered the level of the float and that stoped the gas from running out the overflow. Now its flowing into the airbox fast! I can take the drain out on the airbox turn the gas on and wait a few seconds and watch it run out the drain. What is going wrong?? I was waiting to go for a ride tonight can you guys help me out??

Your float valve must be shot.

Seconded. I had a 200S that'd do that, I put the float from an X in it and it worked perfectly. Take the float out after the carb has had gas in it, and see if there's any inside of it.

How is gas getting in the airbox without it running out the carb overflow?

check to see if rubber on the float needle is rotted or missing

Indeed, take the float needle out and check it for wear, if it's not smooth in it's decline it won't seat properly, there will be a circle wore down in it from where it sits.

Ok I been doing some work on it and think I know why the gas was going into the airbox instead of just out the carb overflow. There is a one way check valve in the drain line that I think could have stuck closed and the gas had no place else to go but out the back of the carb. I had this happen before and I didnt know my airbox was full of gas and the carb backfired causing my airbox to explode into flames! The float needle didn't seem to have any wear on it but I'm going to look for a complete rebuild kit for my carb. Does anyone know a good place to buy a carb kit for a ytm225? I looked on ebay the other day and didnt see a complete kit.

most of us use the yfm250 carb kit.

oddly enough, my local triumph shop was able to get a kit for
18 bucks within a day or so.

I'd check Dennis Kirk, of course I think they offer the moose rebuild kits, so maybe check Moose Racings website.

Use a timberwolf kit, minus the main jet

I went ahead and ordered a kit for a timberwolf last night. I used to have a 95 timberwolf and I remembered the carb was almost identical so I went ahead and took a gamble and ordered one glad to hear others have done the same. What size is the main jet on the timberwolf? The mainjet on my DX says either 112.5 or 125 I can't make it out. Some goober nicked the tip of the mainjet up with a screwdriver sometime within the last 28 years.

The DX and 89-91 Timberwolf main jet is 112.5 (92~ is 85).

The DX and 89-91 Timberwolf main jet is 112.5 (92~ is 85). Thanks for the info. I had no idea they started making the Timberwolf that early. The rebuild kit I ordered was for the later model T-wolf, is there any difference in the pilot jet size? Why did they add a smaller main jet to a larger displacment engine?

when you do your carb kit, and I've said this before as I have dealt with it remove the float needle seat and check the oring on it, if that goes bad your float will be working, but the carb won't stop over flowing either

I don't why they changed the main. Here's the carb specs page from the Timberwolf manual. They can be compared to the DX here. http://www.3wheelerworld.com/showthread.php?125954-YTM200-YTM200e-YTM225-Service-Data
