I just bought a Yamaha 250 YTM225DRN It has no spark. I removed the coil from the top of the motor with the spark plug wire. It seems like I should be able to get that to spark a plug by hooking it to a battery but I cannot. Is there a way to test that part? Is there anything else I should look for on this machine that causes a spark to fail? Is there a way to bypass the switches on the handlebars to check them?
If I need a new coil where is the best place to order it and other parts for this machine.
Thanks,

either go to a yamaha dealer or a cycle salvage they usually have alot of good used parts.

yes you can by pass the handle bar switch that you are talkin about, just open up the case and connect the two wires that are attacted to the on/off switch.
Just make sure you can take'em apart so you can stop the trike.. heh.
I would get a manual for it. The 225DR has a few things that will stop it from starting. It has a neutral safety switch, a reverse saftey switch, they will stop it from starting. Have you been using the electric start, or the pull rope? Before you cut the wires on the on/off switch, check it for continuity, you can make sure its good. Look for broken/ burnt wires, and unplugged plugs.
Let me know if I can look up anything for you in my manual.
GOOD LUCK
