I am psyched I finally got one of these. It starts first kick but bogs super bad and smokes A LOT. More than any 2 stroke I have ever owned. Blows big smoke rings out the back too haha. The owner said he was running a 25:1 mix which is a little much on the oil I believe, I usually run 32:1 in my bikes. Any reccomendations? Also, needs a carb tuning. The guy said someone mentioned to him that the carb looks bigger than the stock one. I don't know if it is or not so if anyone has some pictures and measurements to compare it to, that would be great. I am also missing fenders and a seat but the gas tank is there and intact. If anyone has a set of Fenders or a seat or both, please respond to my post about that in the classifieds section or just email me at jeremiah.stevens@prodigy.net PMs here are also fine. I will get pictures tomorrow when its not pouring rain like it is now, not to mention it being 10 o clock at night.

sounds too me like it is getting way too much fuel, adjust the carb mix more lean I would say. Also there is supposed to be this oil that works for any mix, 16:1 all the way to 100:1. But I would just consult the owners manual and buy high quality oil. Not too familiar with 2 strokes though, just thought I'd give some input

Thanks. yeah, its definitally running rich, I am worried that I would have to downjet because theres a possibility of the carb being a larger size than stock, possibly from another machine which could have too high of a jet. I figure to boost the popularity of this thread I might as well post a picture that was on craigslist of it before I got it. So here it is: 129266

does it bog when you rev it sitting still or while riding? If it bogs just sitting still your pilot jet most likely is way to high. If you take off the head pipe and look inside to see if you have a bunch of unburnt fuel and oil coated on the inside. I had a KDX200 that someone put on a larger carb that would bog and the seal around the head pipe and cylinder was so bad you could see fuel blowing out because it was way too much fuel. Your oil mixture is fine, Honda I believe recommends 20:1. If you are boging while riding then if it does it at 1/4-3/4 throttle adjust your needle jet (may have to change the need itself). If it does it at WOT then adjust the main. Most likely if it a carb off a larger bike everything will have to be adjusted. Start with pilot jet and work from there one at a time.
Good luck and very cool project

Thanks tyler, best info I got all day. The stock jet according to the manual is a 158, I will see thats in the carb now. Theres a team powersports that supports Honda about 20 miles away and I am heading to look at a 1977 dodge camper van around 3pm :w00t: so I'll stop by. Until then, I'll go see whats in the carb now. Thanks guys!

Guys you are not gonna believe this... when I pulled the carb apart I found this nice littler suprise... THERE IS NO MAIN JET. Thats right, just a big gaping hole. Theres a secondary jet, but no main jet. That would explain why its running so rich. well, I would have had to buy one anyway... crazy people

I know, Im loving it. The pilot is fine, its starts first kick and idles smooth. I pretty much need all plastics and a seat and the headlight and some other things. I am thinking of investing in a trx 250r quad frame and dropping the ATC motor in it.

Dont know about where you live but I have seen many trx250rs 86 87 selling in the $1300-1800 price range for mainly stock bikes, insane low prices. About 2 a month come around here. I would just get a full trx is that is what you want.
