Well I couldn't resist this old beater on Craigslist...85 Big Red badly in need of some TLC.
Tank is too far gone to save...Brakes needed all around...pieces parts missing/not working here and there BUT It starts and runs good after I gave it a good carb cleaning. Tranny shifts well except for a bunch of slop in the shifter linkage.

My question is how do I get the front wheel off!? I loosened the four front axle cap nuts but I CANNOT get the front axel bolt to to unscrew from the left fork. She won't even budge. Cheater barred more than I should have and put some heat on the fork too(although not much). Any suggestions?

I'll try to follow up with a picture of the ole gal with its vintage windshield in place. I grew up with a 200s and always wanted a Big Red. I've got most of one now!:Bounce

nice!! the front axle bolts can be a trailprotrailprotrailprotrailprotrailpro!! ive had 2 that were frozen solid!! impact would not touch it!! i had to remove the fork from the upper with the hub and axle still attached. put it in a heavy duty vice. heat the crap out of it with oxy/act, and a LARGE 1/2" breaker bar. extreme force was required!! good luck.

I thought I paid too much a week ago when I bought it for $200. A week later when it runs good and has a couple woodland cruises under it's belt I'm feeling a lot better about it. After seeing what the side covers are going for on ebay I'm thinking about swapping one out for a nice plastic tank! A note to the unfamiliar: DO NOT TRY TO KICK START IT IN WET FLIP FLOPS FRESH FROM THE POOL. Electric start is a beautiful thing! I will spare you the photos of my skinned up, deep purple bruised foot as proof. (There was a time when I only did such moronic things under the influence of a few beers. I guess older does not always equal wiser!). Needless to say a new battery is on the way.
