Anyone have a good way to remove oxidation and rust from rear axles and axle nuts?

navel jelly.

If you are asking how to get rid of rust and restore that pretty anodized coating, not going to happen. You can prep the axle for paint or powder. Or you can always buy a new one if still available and you are going for the perfect origional stock look with NOS parts.

Sure, remove it, get it blasted and either zinc coated or powder coat it............

If the journals are good, it's worth it!

I have used vinegar to remove rust and the anodizing was still there. I am not sure why.

Do not soak it more than overnight without checking the progress, or you may remove more material than you want to.

There is an 81 or 82 200 axle on ebay for $20 with good goldish galvanizing still. Only $20 shipping.
