I bought a used metal one for my 300 that was just like my old one, well besides the leaks haha I think if you get a good condition metal one go for it just try and be super nice to your machine when it comes to leaving it outside, I always cover up my 300 even on sunny days haha

I could tell where my tank was leaking because it was kinda steady haha I'm not really sure how you can pinpoint your leak though :/

tons of threads on tank rust repair.
Search key will give you more info than you could ever want.
I clean them out as best I can, heet fuel dryer, sun, compressed air
and then decide what to spend $$ on for a sealer, or better tank.
They say keep them FULL and out of the sun so they don't sweat condensation,
or dead empty and sprayed with oil and hang them in a
very dry place.
My prettiest sx was taken care of perfectly.
Stored inside, never ever got dirty since new.
They drained the tank, and carb, left the gas cap on and
kept it in a heated garage.
That gorgeous NEW looking tank had rust so bad you could easily
push 4 knuckles thru the bottom.

here is a question for you jordan, are you leaving the fuel on when you are done or do you shut it off, you say you cant see where it's leaking, what if on the off chance it is draining from your carb onto the floor and your tank is not leaking, you should have a wet spot on the tank if it is leaking, and should be able to see the path it takes to the edge where it drips off

a little soapy water on the outside and blow into the tank.
Just don't inhale
Or just seal the whole thing.
Oh yea, make sure it IS the tank that's leaking.
Most have tiny paint bubbles along the bottom that are actually rust hole volcanoes in the making.
Some automotive radiator shops will laugh at them and some will fix them.

wel, I always leave it on and leave the cap in the on position, but I can see where the gas is on the left side of my tank, doesnt look like its comin from the petcock tho, might get me a tank soon also:/ not sure what the deal is

If you feel any bumps in the paint, on the bottom edges,,,, those are tell tell signs of a rusted or near rusted thru area.

That por15 is amazing stuff, muratic acid, then backing soda, the lots of water from a hose, drain it out, put it in the sun to dry, watch the red surface rust occur (por-15 says thats ok in the instructions) then about 3 or 4 oz of por-15, let it dry for a week. I have done 3 tanks, never fails

Use KBS coating gas tank sealer, it's works great and its less than $40 to do a tank!! I did the tank on my 84' 200x and it hasn't leaked a drop since and it had 13 pinholes!!!

my kawasaki klt 110 has a leaky tank also.... mine is leaking from the bottom where the metal tabs are that go around to those circle shaped rings that the tank rests on. picking up some jb weld to solve it..

If my Big Red tank leaks (which I don't think it does) I might coat it anyway because it looks rusty.
