how hard is it to rebuild a carburetor? and how much does the kit cost? My tri z is hard to start. It floods real easy.

Carbs aren't to bad. You usually don't need a kit, just take it apart, and clean everything, and put it back together. They usually use "O" rings that can be reused. Flooding is usually caused by dirt in the needle and seat assembly. Cleaning should help but sometimes you have to replace the assy. Good luck.

arebuild kit runs around $20 and well worth it. You get new jets and o-rings. You never know if the old ones are dried out and may crack. Also carb cleaners will weaken the rubber so dont spray the o-rings with it.

Don't know anywhere that sells mikuni kits. I am assuming that is what is on your z. You usually just have to buy the individual parts. Get the # off your carb, and any bike shop should be able to get what you need.

Personally, I think rebuild kits are a waste of money on most bike carbs. Automobile carbs have lots of moving rubber parts, plungers, o-rings, etc. which cracked and needed replaced or "rebuilt" over time. Granted, even some 4 stroke carbs have a plunger type pump in them, and may require replacement, but most carbs dont have parts to wear out, other than the float controlled needle and seat. How do you wear out brass jets by pushing gas through the hole? Im sure, in theory, its possible after a few million hours. Some may have an o-ring on the idle or air screw, but Ive never had to replace one. My throttle slide is showing some wear on my Z, but that would not be included in a any "rebuild" kit. Most carbs have very few parts that would ever even wear out, so carb "rebuild kits" arent practical. Your better off to buy the individual part shoudl you have one fail.

On the Keihin carbs on my Hondas the springs and the o-ring between the carb halves along with the float needle are what I replace when I have to open the carb . Thru Honda it is just as much to buy these as a carb kit from RMATV, and I get new jets, slide needle, and pilot screw for spare parts.

well i dropped it off at the yamaha shop for them to clean the carb and they did a compression check and their is 90lbs. they said their should be from 120-125lbs. they said it might cost around 750.00 to rebuild it what should i do. the bike runs fine. will it hurt it if i keep running it like that?

i rebuilt mine and it never ran the same. i ended up putting the old metal stuff back in and first push of the button and it starts.

Did they clean your carb yet? If not do it yourself. So easy its not funny. :D

well they called and said it is all done. they said their is gas blowing out of something! what the hell it did not do that when i dropped it off.

well they messed it up. I don't know what they did but now it is leaking gas from a gasket were the cylinder sits on the motor. how hard is it to replace one of them? and were can i get one becuse im not going back there. With that leaking now would that make my compression low?

Thats the base gasket. Did they have the cylinder off? Thats the only way they could have messed it up. It does not affect compression, but does affect vacuum. Youve got to remove the cylinder to replace it. Have you tried retorquing the four nuts that hold the cylinder on?
