I've got everything back together and just put my rear caliper on with the block plate and new pads. I kinda had to force it onto the rotor because I couldn't get the piston to retract any more. Now I need to loosen the grip on the rotor so I can ride! I tried to bleed the brakes but got no pressure after pumping pedal like 100x. Should I keep trying or am I missing something? My fluid level is full but nothing? Does it have anything to do with the pads already squeezing the rotor?

Even with a completely frozen caliper you should still build pressure. I would remove the brake line from the caliper and pump the pedal to make sure fluid is going thru the line.

ok now I've got pressure and the caliper isn't frozen. I got the piston to retract most of the way but it's still tight on the rotor how do I get it to loosen?

If the piston does not retract all the way it may need rebuilding. Or have you rebuilt it already?

i haven't and it worked fine with the old brake pads--the new ones are just thicker--I just got this trike back together and really don't want to rebuild ANYTHING right now

if both pads are tight on the rotor, the only way to loosen it up is to get the piston to retract a little further. I understand not wanting to rebuild ANYTHING, I finally got tired of my rear brakes leaking and had to rebuild. Luckily it is only three O-rings to replace and a little polishing. Make sure both pads are tight against rotor, if not the caliper may not be centering on the rotor.

Sounds like the slide pin(s) are frozen to me. The larger one (with the 6mm hex in it) is the usual culprit. You'll have to free it up if you want to stop dragging the rear brakes. If you have access to a press it would be a big help, if not it can be done in a vice with penetrating oil and a lot of elbow grease. This is a common problem. Remember to relube the slide pins with silicone grease and replace the rubber boots if necessary. Hope this helps.

I got it. Thank you both for the help. It was the slide pin. Luckily, the trike has always been well cared for and nothing is frozen up. I just loosened the pin and gave it a test ride and all is well. Thanks again--Yater

Glad to hear all is well. Enjoy.
