A diesel trike would be sweet I've never even heard of one. I bet it would be a heavy SOB be a torque monster though.

That's a really cool trike never thought of putting a diesel in a trike!!

ok, that diesel trike is just badass...i would do it to but i would need more details..like the exact engine, and what he did for a tranny.

EDIT: ok, i saw his other video, on how he made it..and it doesnt actully look that hard..but if i did a diesel, mine would be chain and sprocket, not CVT like his.

rear bearings and front triple bearings are being ordered on monday.

KASEY, what bike are you using for the base of your build??

I like the theme of this build, but I am not a huge fan of painting plastics. Although I really don't see any other way you could do this.

Please tell me you're going to paint that motor black.

so..today i went over to our small engine repair shop and he had a flywheel puller, and let me use it for free!
so i figured out my no spark problem..there was bits of the exciter coil stuck to the flywheel..yay..so i ordered a new one, when it gets here i will put the motor in.

ok, now that break time is over.. lets finish this thing!!!
i bet you guys thought i forgot about you?? well..truth is i lost interest with this mid summer and now im back on it because my freind wants it done, haha.

i have the forks attatched to the frame and i just installed the rear bearings and seals, and the tank is at my buddies body shop getting the dents pulled.

i still need to get,
coil assembly
recoil
and possibly a rear axle, because i think i f'ed up the threads on one side.

i gotta question, would flat black engine paint look ok?? i cant find high heat gloss black to save my life!!

DasUberKraut
10-26-2011, 10:41 PM
I think flat is 100 times better than gloss. I personally have never been a fan of gloss black in any application.

Also, I can't wait to see the CAT project completed. Such a unique idea.

does anyone have any tips for painting the engine or is it as easy as it seems??

It's pretty easy, just clean it real well and tape off all the holes and bolts and lines and whatnot that you don't want painted. I use a scotch brite pad to rough it up and then clean it again with paint prep cleaner/degreaser, or if you can't or don't want to get it some acetone or carb cleaner will work. Then paint. Drink beer and watch dry. Enjoy :)

Well, when I have shipped to Canada in the past the "Buyer" which is you would pay all of the fees once it gets to the courier service in Canada. Let me do a little more research on that. What is your postal code.

If the part you need is behind the flywheel you need the stator or the primary. I do not have either of those.

ok, im hoping you guys can save me from buying a new rear axle. how would i fix stripped threads on the end of the axle??

Motorious

Tap and die kit. I did it on a go cart axle, held up beautifully.

Honda200s84
10-28-2011, 10:53 PM
i have one, but i need a bigger die to fix this..what size would be best??

Motorious
10-28-2011, 11:40 PM
That depends on the size of the stud, and how badly it's stripped. I would think that re-cutting the threads to the original specs would be best, but that might not be possible if they're mangled badly. The threads on my go-cart axle were completely buggered (I had a hell of a time just getting the wheel off), so I just found the best fitting die I had in my kit and carefully cut new threads on it. The new threads were of a different pitch and slightly different size than the originals, yet somehow I got lucky and I happened to have a nut on hand that fit perfectly. Bear in mind that this was a little microcart with a pocket bike motor, and ten-inch wheels, but the little sucker was surprisingly fast, and was capable of propelling my 6' 200LB+ frame to 35 MPH+ speeds, and I drove the snot out of it, frequently getting all 4 wheels to drift thru the turns, the re-threaded axle was on the rear, and I never had any problems with it even when I had to pull the wheel again to replace the inner tube.

As long as it's a good cleanly cut thread that allows you to properly torque the lug nuts down, it shouldn't matter what size they are. And I don't see any reason why it wouldn't work on a 3 wheeler.

recutting the threads is no big deal, with a die your best bet is taking it to american fine thread, which will allow you to not have to do to much work. Granted you will have an odd ball nut and thread on one side, but it's cheaper than a new axle

to make it even cooler..i have an idea for a rear track setup, smiliar to the Hitch-A-Track system.
