Plastic gas tank leaking

ahhh, my first no rust plastic tank and the sucker literally pours gas out from under the cap.

I cut a new gasket for the cap and put it under the rubber seal
with no change.
Still sloshes out bad.

I hope the neck isn't separated from the tank but it's real hard to see.

I found another cap that says 'clark' on it but the threads seem different.
Got too dark to fool with it anymore tonight.

So I guess my questions are,
-what kind of glue or sealer works on plastics if it comes to that.
-It's an 85 sx so I know those tanks (metal or plastic) are superspecific
so not too sure what options I have

i 2 82 200 with the same tank and it leaks out around the cap like yours i do not know why

i had the same problem with chinese atv. I end up putting teflon tape on the threads. it worked but I had to change the tape every now and then

Would it work to put an o-ring up under the cap, where it meets the tank neck?

I'm guessing that the threads were too sloppy on it to help create a good seal sorry about your luck drjoe. Damn that rotten aftermarket stuff

clarke tanks have a cork gasket that keeps them from leaking. Once its gone they will leak badly. I was lucky and my stock cap fit mine. I'd give a call to the tank manufacter and see what they can do.

Lucked out.
Found a red funnel used for filling coleman stoves and it fits in there perfectly
so I cut it off flush with the fill rim and it now acts like that sleeve that's in all the metal tanks.

Ya know, that sleeve inside the fill port that hangs down an inch or so,
keeps us from draining tanks completely but also keeps splash from hitting the cap
directly.

That funnel is just tapered enough to fit in perfectly and that by itself was almost good enough.
No leak and a built in fuel filler filter. :-)

Not sure if it's a clark tank but a clark cap spins on perfectly, and the cork is still there.

Gotta get lucky once in a while, eh?
