picked up an '84 tecate. has really nice rear rims. i believe they r stock. they r in good shape. i was wondering if they r same bolt as the '86 rear rims, or if the hub splines r the same is the bolt pattern isnt. help me out here please.

what is interchangeable from the early model tecates to the later ones??

The 84 pattern is 4/4 (8" or 10") or 4/101mm the 85-87 are 4/156mm.. (10" only) the splines are interchangeable between 84 and 85. An 85 KLF185 has the same axle splines and will give you 4/110 pattern..

oem 84 wheels are gold painted steel. The '85 uses the same wheels front and rear and shares the rear wheels with the 86-87. 85-87 are aluminum wheels.

ohhhh good to know. so maybe this is an '84 with '85 rear hubs and rims. the rear rims look like that of an '86. they r aluminum. or maybe its an '85. how would i figure that out??

so i could use these rear hubs on an '86. thats cool

by the way i found the tecate parts interchangeability threads. good stuff in there.

I disagree about the axle splines. 84-85 have 13 course splines. 86-87 have 24 splines. So no, a hub from 1985 is not going an 1986 axle. A 4/156mm rim will but not a hub.

He is 100% correct about that.. I knew that. Brain fart on my part for sure..

Ok thanks guys. I'm sure I'll have more questions. I think the tecate I just picked up is an '85. It's got disc brakes on the front and the 4/156 hubs and rims.

I thought you already knew it was. You told me you thought it was an 85 and I confirmed it.

yeah i thought it was from the disc brakes. and rear rims but from what i have been reading about swapping parts, i guess they could have been switched to that. but more likely it is an '85. i was just stating it in this thread because in my first post i said it was an '84. so that way anyone giving advice or info would now know it was an '85. but yes u already knew cuz i talked to u about it earlier but not on this thread.
